Marvin Baum Obituary
WORCESTER - Dr. Marvin "Chick" Baum age 98 died on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Saint Vincent Hospital.
His wife of 56 years Danella "Pennie" (Mandell) Baum died in 2000. He leaves two sons, Dr. Alfred Baum and his wife Marcia of Plymouth, MA and Samuel Baum of San Diego; a daughter Faith Baum and her wife Sue Becker of Maplewood, NJ; a sister Claire Moses of Chicago; six grandchildren and one great grandson. He was predeceased by his son Alan Michael Baum.
He was born in Patterson, NJ and was the son of Samuel and Adele (Gerstein) Baum.
He graduated from the University of Alabama and New York Medical College. He specialized in Internal Medicine, first in private practice in the 1950's and later for Fallon Clinic in the early 1970's. Following his education he moved to Worcester and began private practice in Internal Medicine. He was a member of the staff of Saint Vincent Hospital and Fairlawn Hospital before joining the Fallon Clinic, with a special interest in geriatrics. He was widely loved and respected by his patients, colleagues and the Worcester community. In retirement he was a very active volunteer, delivering meals for Rachel's Table, participating in a radio program for visually impaired and was a tutor and mentor of students of Flagg Street School. Throughout the years he was a very active volunteer in many capacities at Temple Emanuel Sinai.
He was a Navy Veteran of WWII.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 1:00 PM ON TUESDAY, JUNE 18TH IN TEMPLE EMANUEL SINAI, 661 SALISBURY STREET UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery in Leicester.
Immediately following the interment a Memorial Observance reception will be held until 4:30 p.m. in Temple Emanuel Sinai and continuing from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in Eisenberg Assisted Living Residence at 631 Salisbury Street.

I am so sorry to hear of Chick´s passing. Pennie and Chick and my parents became friends in 1960, I think. So long ago. We would visit occasionally over the years, in both Worcester and the Cape, and were always welcomed with warmth and friendship.
The times are long gone but the memories remain.

To all of "Uncle" Chick's family: Uncle Chick was a close family friend and doctor, as well as a loving father, husband and active member of the Jewish community. I will miss visiting with him again, like I did two years ago. He and "aunt" Pennie were my daughter Stephanie's godparents and she adored both of them, just like I did. I was so sorry to learn of Dr Baum's passing. He was one of the first people we met as our family doctor when we moved to Worcester in 1960. I remember his housecalls when I was sick, his great big smile and twinkling eyes, and how proud he was of me when I became a nurse and then nurse practitioner. He was so kind and helpful to his dear friends, the Treisters, our next door neighbors. What a lovely person he always was. So sorry for his family on their loss.

Our deepest sympathies to you on the passing of Dr Marvin Baum. My mom lives at Eisenberg Assisted Living as did Dr Baum. He was always a gentleman, very kind and polite to everyone. May your happy memories help to sustain you.

I am so sorry to hear about the death of Uncle Chick. He was not only our family doctor, but a beloved friend to me and my parents. I am so grateful that I was able to visit him when I was in Massachusetts last summer. He was one of the kindest men I have ever met . Pennie and Chick were the godparents to my daughter, Stephanie.
As a child , the Baums opened their home to me when my parents went on vacation. I will always treasure those precious memories, as they wade a huge impact on me as a child.They even tolerated me as a teenager!

Chic was a good friend to our family and such a stand-up kind of guy. Always had a smile and a kind word. He was so caring to his peers as they aged. It's hard for me to imagine Worcester without him. He will be dearly missed and warmly remembered.

Dr Baum was always a big supporter of the Worcester District Medical Society Alliance
(as well as the WDMS).Penny was an active member as well.
When I became president (WDMSA), Dr Baum was instrumental in establishing a core group of nurses and administration on the local and state public health level to identify the importance of immunizations for children. The "Teddy Bear"magnet board was designed by the WDMSA who took an active role in distributing these reminder boards to hospitals as well as health clinics throughout Worcester. Thank you Dr Baum you will always be remembered for your kindness and caring! Susan Kronlund (Ken).

Dr. Baum was one of the kindest gentleman I have even known. His dedication to community was unsurpassed. He was a board member for JFS of Worcester for years and was always an active participant with a wealth of knowledge. May his family travel through their grief easily and may he rest in peace.

I remember his kindness and humanity.He once did a house call for me back in the 1970's when I contacted a severe case of food poisoning. I was admitted to Fairlawn Hospital and later released.
