Theodora Markarian Obituary

Theodora Jane (Lampros) Markarian, January 1938 - March 2009 After a courageous 11 year battle with cancer, Teddie passed away peacefully at her residence in Shrewsbury, MA on Sunday, March 15th 2009 surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves behind her husband of over 42 years, James Markarian; her beloved and devoted children, Marisa Markarian, Jonathan Markarian and his wife Larissa; a loving sister, Francine Lampros-Klein; two treasured grandchildren, Halley Demetra and Theodore Max Markarian; along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her.

Teddie was born in Worcester, to the late James and Demetra (Pappas) Lampros. She was raised in Worcester, MA, earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Worcester State College. Teddie was then an elementary school teacher and administrator in the Worcester public school system until starting her family. For over 30 years, she divided her time between Shrewsbury, MA, Wellington, FL and Nantucket, MA. Teddie was a generous benefactor to causes she believed in. She enjoyed extensive travel, tennis, planting, laughing, and being surrounded by family and friends. Her laughter, generous spirit and wisdom gleaned from having lived a full and varied life.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday March 18th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A trisagion service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Her funeral will be held on Thursday March 19th from the funeral home with a service at 11 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA. A private burial service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Nantucket, MA.

Through the years of loving care, Teddie had the utmost respect for Dr. Kathryn Edmiston and her staff. The family asks that all memorial donations are sent to the wonderful people who helped Teddie in her courageous fight against breast cancer at the Peter Levine Cancer Center Hematology, Oncology Department, UMass Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01615.

Dear Jim, Marisa, Jonathan and family,

We recently learned of your terrible loss. We did not know Teddie that long but we will certainly miss her warmth, spark and the great conversations we had together on Nantucket. We all shared some fun times. Her incredible strength and determination in her battle with cancer was an inspiration to us all. We are so sorry she is gone but hope you can find comfort in the wonderful memories you have of her.

Love,
