Thomas Lund Obituary

Thomas P. "Tommy" Lund, age 84

Newbuyrport, MA - Thomas died peacefully at Avita Assisted Living in Newburyport, MA on July 17, 2019. Born in Worcester, MA Thomas lived in Boxford, MA for some years before they followed their life long neighbors to live in Merrimac, MA where he lived for much of his childhood and early adult life. A graduate of Merrimac High School he attended and graduated with a business degree from Boston University. Fully expecting to be drafted he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and was stationed for a significant portion of that time at the Army Presidio in San Francisco. While still in the Army he married Barbara A. Langlois in 1958 in Lawrence MA, to whom he was married for nearly sixty years before her passing in 2017. After his term he served in the Army Reserves, stationed at Ft. Devens, MA.

He spent his nearly thirty-two year career with the FDIC, located in Harford, CT to where he and Barbara moved. His job had him traveling much of New England and on occasion other parts of the country including Puerto Rico.

They retired back to the Northshore in 1994, moving to Amesbury MA. Thomas loved to travel and he and Barbara did lots of that in retirement traveling the U.S, most of Europe and some parts of South America. He had a passion for skiing, a love he passed onto his family, and skied for much of his life including most if not all of the mountains of New England and many portions of the Alps. He loved golf and played often with Barbara's uncle throughout much of the Northshore, MA. He was most proud of his Finnish descent and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Kaleva of Fitchburg and Lancaster, MA and served on the Grand Lodge board achieving the highest level of degree of membership possible through years of service. He was always grateful for having visited Finland in 1987.

Thomas leaves behind his daughters, Paula and husband Danny Gray of Nashua NH, and Laurie and husband Bob Cooney of Lunenburg MA; his son, John of Connecticut; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, a brother, along with several generations of nieces and nephews and extended family.

Visiting hours are Monday, July 22, 2019 from 10 A.M to 12 Noon at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:30 P.M. at the Merrimacport United Methodist Church, 39 High Street, Merrimac. Cousin Tommy was a most caring and concerned family man and I am sorry to hear of his death. I always enjoyed seeing him and catching up on Lund family news, as he was my only contact and he would not disappoint.
May he join his beloved Barbara and rest in peace.
Fondly,
Linda

I worked with Tom at Bennington Partners in the mid-1990s and always enjoyed it when we were assigned to the same jobs. He was a good mentor and I was always impressed by his wealth of knowledge and his commitment to the task at hand. I remember one time when he was reviewing a commercial mortgage on a property outside of Hartford. He wasn't impressed with the appraisal, so he took a trip to the property in the evening so he could properly assess it. He was a true joy to work with and I am sure he will be missed.
