E. Fajardo Obituary
Athens, GA
E. Roque Fajardo, age 93, died October 12, 2013 of prostate cancer, having visited with children the night before, died with a Bible and a New York Times on his bedside table.
Preceded in death by wife, Virginia Wilcox Fajardo.
Survived by wife, Nancy, Athens, GA; sister, Lillian (Nick) Pappas; daughters, Marie Ragghianti, Mary Therese Fajardo, Rose (Doug) Latino; sons, Chris (Anne) and Bob (Miffie); thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren.
Roque served with the Sixth Marine division in the Pacific during WWII. With WKDA, The Tennessean and Nashville Banner, he was a newsman, editor and columnist. He wrote speeches for Governor Frank Clement. He became a substance abuse counselor and in 1963, founded and served as first Director of what is now Samaritan Recovery Community. His first book, Helping Your Alcoholic Before He or She Hits Bottom, is still in demand. He counseled troubled families until age 88. Roque donated his body to Emory University.
A memorial Mass was offered October 14th in the chapel at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Atlanta, Father Paul Burke officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home, 760 Pollard Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30315.
