James (Jimmy) L. Thomas

Springfield, TN

James (Jimmy) Leonard Thomas was born in Robertson County, TN on January 31, 1936 to the late James A. and Mable K. Thomas. Jimmy departed his life on January 28, 2017.

He was a devoted Christian and dedicated his life working for St. John United Methodist Church. He served as the Chairperson for the Board of Trustee, active member of the Usher Board, and member of the men's male chorus and was the handy man for the church.

He graduated from Bransford High School in 1954, enlisted into the United States Navy in 1955 and received an honorable discharge. In 1972, he attended Tennessee Barber College and became a licensed barber. He also attended Volunteer State College. He retired from Electrolux as the Quality Control Supervisor in 2004. He loved fishing, hunting, photographing and was very passionate about gardening and working with wood, making things for home and church. He loved sharing what he grew in the garden with St. John Covenant Faith Family, family members and friends.

On June 18, 1971, he united in holy matrimony to Alice Summers.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deborah Thomas Smith and son, Perry Wayne Thomas.

He leaves cherished memories to his devoted wife, Alice; one son, Charles Thomas, Nashville, TN; one daughter, Keitha Summers, Goodlettsville, TN; three sisters, Dorris Hilliard, Hendersonville, TN, Veristine Doss, Goodlettsville, TN, Faye Payne, Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Ernestine Summers Jones; brothers-in-law, Donnell Doss, Freddie Summers; grandchildren, Crystal, Jarvis, Nikia, L'Jola, Ava, and Ayesha; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and many devoted friends whom he loved dearly.

Funeral Service was Tuesday, January 31,2017 at 1:00 pm at St. John United Methodist Church, with Reverend Daniel Hayes, Eulogy and Pastor Rita Joel Stephens, Officiating; Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Garden.

We are deeply sadden by the lost of a dear family friend and long time neighbor. We have many memories of his kindness. His wiliness to always lend a helping hand. The sharing his garden vegetables with his neighbors. Alice we pray for the healing of your heart!

I am so saddened to hear about Jimmys passing. I worked with him for many years at Electrolux. He will be very missed. My daughter called him dad. Alice and family my prayers are with you and your family. Please forgive me for not attending the funeral. I just saw the announcement on FB a few minutes ago.
