Dorna Heyler Obituary

Dorna B. Mudge Heyler
Dorna B. Mudge Heyler age 94 of Westfield passed away at home on Saturday, January 16, 2021 with her loving family by her side. Born April 6, 1926 in Frost Settlement, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cornish and Kittie Belle (Hubbard) Mudge.
Dorna was married to Edward Elmer Heyler on May 17, 1947. They recently celebrated their 73rd Wedding Anniversary. She is survived by her husband Edward Elmer Heyler of Westfield PA; her children, Sam (MaryEllen) Heyler of Watsontown PA, Constance Heyler of Westfield PA, Dick Heyler of Gillett PA, Martin (Joyce) Heyler of Westfield PA and Nancy (David) Resseguie of Brockport NY; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Dorna was preceded in death by her son Daniel Heyler: Her parents Cornish and Kittie Belle Hubbard Mudge and siblings Dorris Benson, Robert Mudge, M. Delos Mudge, Marian Kennedy, and Rachel Carson.
In her life she had many hobbies to which she devoted much time and energy. She loved traveling--local, national, and international travel. She also loved gardening and surrounded her home inside and out with flowers and vegetables. This grew from the fact that she managed a successful business, Heyler's greenhouse from 1953-2019. She also loved her homemaking, her home, and her family, she enjoyed reading and sewing. She was a Sunday school teacher, a girl scout leader, and received an honorary FFA Keystone degree. She was lifelong Republican and never missed a chance to vote.
She was a member of the Westfield United Methodist Church, and in that church she was an active member of the United Methodist Women and Kings daughters. She was also an active member of the LeCercle Modern Book Club of Westfield and Tioga County Pennsylvania Historical Society located in Wellsboro. She was also lifelong member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
One of her most successful endeavors was creating and nurturing her family. Her door was always open to relation, neighbors, children of the community, workers, and anyone in need of an ear or nourishment be it physical, spiritual, or emotional. She could host a party for neighborhood children with two hours' notice, and set extra plates at the table with a minutes notice. She was a fixture in her community and family.
One of her crowning achievements was managing a successful greenhouse business in Westfield for over 60 years. Many people came to the greenhouse to learn to love gardening, to share stories, and experience fellowship. This transcended from being a business but was an inclusive way of life.
At this time in accordance with CDC guidelines a private family funeral will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date details will be posted at that time.
Within a week a recorded link of her service will be posted at www.kenyonfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the United Methodist Church of Westfield or to the Tioga County Pennsylvania Historical Society of Wellsboro PA. Arrangements are in care of Kenyon Funeral Home, Westfield.
