Lulu Belle "Lu" Wilson

1925 - 2018

Lulu (Lu) Belle Wilson, 92, of Caton, NY, passed away on March 16, 2018, at Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare, in Corning, NY. Born April 11, 1925 in Caton, NY.

She was the daughter of the late Walter and Sadie (Lewis) Crooker. Lu married Leonard (Dick) Wilson Jr., on June 27, 1948 in the Caton United Methodist Church. He predeceased her on February 25, 2014. Their son, Stephen was born March 2, 1950 in Corning, NY.

Lu attended schools in the Caton and Corning, NY area, graduating from Corning Northside High School in 1945. She also attended Corning Community College, taking real estate courses.

Over the years Lu worked for Cushing's Drapery Shop, Market Basket Grocery Store, Corning Building Company all in Corning, Iszard's Department Store in Elmira, NY. She retired from Corning Museum Of Glass after 15 years of service there. Aside from her family, one of her enjoyments in life was working as a Mary Kay Cosmetics beauty consultant for many years, enjoying meeting and working with customers, making many good friends over the years. She was licensed in real estate sales working with her husband, Dick, in LEW Real Estate, in Corning. Lu and Dick also spent many enjoyable years square dancing and round dancing with the Crystal City Spinners Square Dance Club. Lu was a lifelong member of the Caton United Methodist Church, and in younger years enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a devoted, loving, and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be greatly missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Sadie (Lewis) Crooker, husband Dick Wilson, father-in-law and mother-in-law Leonard Wilson Sr. and Anna (Baker) Wilson, sister Bertha Booth and brother-in-law Howard Booth, brothers and sisters-in-law Curtis Crooker, Merwin and Agnes Crooker, Gerald and Joan Crooker, James Crooker, sister-in-law Ann (Wilson) Chaborek, and brothers-in-law William Wilson, and Claude Wilson.

Lu is survived by her son, Stephen M. (Jody) Wilson of Corning, NY, three granddaughters, Courtney Wilson of Corning, Kimberly (Rajib) Ahmed of Livermore, CA, and Callie (Joe) Narde of Corning, a great granddaughter, Ava Narde, and great grandson, Donovan Narde, both of Corning. Lu is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Marcia (Richard) Cowles, brothers and sisters-in-law, Carley (Jan) Crooker, Carlton Crooker, Richard (Gladys) Crooker, sisters-in-law Norma Wilson, Marilyn Wilson, brother-in-law John Chaborek, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

We would like to offer a sincere thank you to the staff and the 3rd floor nurses and aides who took very good care of Mom. Also, we would like to thank CareFirst, for their support and guidance in Mom's final days.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 22, 2018, between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm with the Memorial service immediately following at 3:00 pm at Acly-Stover Funeral Home, in Corning, with Pastor Chad Sayers officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience.

In Lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to Caton United Methodist Church, or CareFirst in Corning, NY, in memory of Lulu B. Wilson.
