Bonita Hubbard Obituary

HUBBARD, BONITA ELIZABETH JEWELL A loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, she passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, in Baton Rouge. She was 83, a native of Iberville Parish and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She moved to Maringouin after retiring from Commercial Securities, where she served as an executive secretary for more than 30 years. Visiting was at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. Visiting at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Maringouin, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Carey and Pam Hubbard; a sister, Helen Landry; a brother, Wylie Jewell Sr.; two grandchildren, Robert Carey Hubbard Jr. and Stacy Elizabeth Hudson; and three great-grandchildren, Alec Cole Hudson, Erika Brooke Hudson and Elise Elizabeth Hudson. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. "Carey" Hubbard; father and mother, Joseph Lubin Jewell Sr. and Mattie Wylie Barrow Jewell; and two brothers, Edwin Jewell and J. Lubin Jewell Jr. Pallbearers will be Robert Carey Hubbard Jr., Lane Landry, Clayton Hurdle, Harvey T. Best Jr., Dustin Jewell, Dan Jewell, David Jewell, M.D., and Byron Hudson. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Hubbard, Henry Hubbard Jr., Wylie Jewell Jr., Baylor Jewell, M.D., Harvey T. Best III, Jason Best, Edwin Jewell Jr., Dewayne Jewell, Lubin Jewell III, Matt Jewell, Charles Row III, Paul Dixon, Philip Dixon, Dudley Nicolosi, Louis Joseph Nicolosi, C.J. Goudeau, Kevin Wuestenhoefer and Mark Henderson. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Maringouin, and past member of the Executive Secretaries of Baton Rouge and the Lions Club of Maringouin. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Hubbard wrote: "take a child for a hamburger and shake at McDonalds or get him or her new shoes or clothes in memory of me."

I worked with Bonita so many years ago and I can still see her smiling. What a lovely lady and witness to me she was. I could never forget her and when I read of her death, I saw her smile.

I am very sorry to hear of Mrs. Hubbard's death. She was a pleasure to have as a patient at Dr. Zobrist's office. She will be missed by all of us, too.
