Elijah Wilkinson Sr.

WILKINSON SR., ELIJAH "SANG" A retired laborer and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Monday, March 22, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 78 and a native of Corner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 505. Visiting at Sweet Home Baptist Church from 9 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Roosevelt Pryer. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by three daughters, Viola W. Tillotson and Marvel W. Hughes, both of Baton Rouge, and Gerri Stevens, New Orleans; three sons, Elijah Wilkinson Jr., Charles Leon and wife Brenda Wilkinson and Daryl Wilkinson, all of Baton Rouge; a sister, Louise W. Albert, Baton Rouge; three sisters-in-law, Eula Mae Wilkinson, Doris H. Perkins and Mary Perkins; a brother, Charles Wilkinson Jr.; four brothers-in-law, Edward and wife Doris Perkins, Baton Rouge, Robert and wife Mary Perkins, New Orleans, Joseph M. Jenkins, Los Angeles, and Jesse Anderson, Clinton; a devoted friend and companion, Barbara W. Robertson; a loving and loyal cousin, Patricia W. Wheelock; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Earlen P. Wilkinson; parents, Charles and Rebecca Dunbar Wilkinson; a brother, Joseph Wilkinson; two sisters, Lureno Aclise and Alzetta Wilkinson; three sisters-in-law, Viola P. Fields, Lenora P. Jenkins and Ruby P. Wilkinson; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Perkins and Alvin Perkins; and a son-in-law, Daryl W. Hughes. He was a member of Labor Union Local 1177 Retirees Council, Sweet Home Baptist Church Trustee Board and Brotherhood Ministry. Winnfield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
