My deepest condolences Sylvia and the entire Dement family for your loss. I had a such admiration and respect for Dr. Dement, a wonderful person and a great man. I worked closely with him in the GI Lab at BRGH from 1981- 2000. He was a caring physician and a loving family man. We spent many hours a day sitting next to each other during long endoscopy procedures talking about our families, current events and his interest in bird watching. He was such a wonderful person and role model for all. I am so thankful to have known him and he will be greatly missed. So sorry for your loss.

My condolences to the DeMent family. I was a patient of his from the early 90s until his retirement. He treated me and helped me learn to live with a serious case of Crohns disease, and much was not known at that time about the disease. He was with me in many severe instances, and saved me and my unborn son from near death in 1993. I was fortunate enough to have run in to him while Christmas shopping this past year. He was very kind, understanding, and compassionate as a person as well as a physician. He will be missed dearly.

Dr. Dement diagnosed my mother with advanced colon cancer. I will never forget his gentleness or concern as he helped us make decisions about her treatment going forward. He was so good to my Mom, and I appreciated his concern for her. He found her cancer in a colonoscopy and as I had accompanied her, he told me the results. They hit me hard, but I remember his compassion and kindness. He was a doctor who cared for the whole person, not just concerned with the disease they had. I will always be grateful for the way he helped my Mom.

We are so sad to hear of Leon's death. He was a wonderful gentleman and was my personal physician--the best, a doctor's doctor. Our sincere condolences to Sylvia and children.
