To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Collins' Family:
You have my deepest condolences. I hadn't seen Steve in years (PC Central and Southern University days), but the one thing that comes to mind was his joy of singing. Above all else, I will always remember the true kindness that Steve showed to everyone.
I know these must be hard times, but keep the faith. You are in my prayers. May God bless you and keep you.

Gone But Never Ever Forgotten...
Life seems all but to short, especially when it comes to the good people like Steve. Even though I only knew Steve for a short time as my co-worker at the Belle Of Baton Rouge Casino, I found him to be a complete joy to know and talk with. Steve had such a positve outlook on life and such a love and devotion for God, the church, and singing. Now that you have left your earthly home Steve, I suspect that you will be in Heaven walking around all day and singing praises. I want say "Goodbye,"but I will say, "Save a seat for me in Heaven." Rest in Peace and God Speed, Ms. Debra

I am the daughter of Isaiah Lanehart who went to be with our Lord last November. Steven was his nephew and sang at the funeral, that was the first time I remember meeting him. The song he chose to sing was "I won't complain." He had a beautiful voice. We know that he is in the arms of Christ, and that all is well, so we won't complain. My deepest sympathy to his parents and the rest of our family. I thank God that I got the chance to meet him and to hear him sing. I love you all.

I have not known Steven for a long time, but I enjoyed the times that we shared together at Dwelling Place Bible Study on Thursdays. Steven was a remarkable person, I'm glad to be a real witness of his dedication and heart felt desire to know christ intimately he was a devoted disciple that made christ his savior at Dwelling Place and, also fulfilled his commitment to the Lord.
"As Days Go By"
Our lives will not be the same but you accepted christ with honor and not shame. As days go by we will cry a little longer but through christ it will make us all a liitle stronger. As days go by we will continue to spread the words of our lord because afterall we are all we are on one accord. As days go by we will continue to be taught and not be distraught by our actions. As days go by we must rely on the word and not the world. As days go by we know that your'e in a better place and now we can wipe the tears from our face.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Dwelling Place Family

To the family of Steven Collins: I had the pleasure of working with your son at Popeye's famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits. At the time I was his General Manager. Our friendship continued as he moved on to better his life. Though we didn't talk everyday or every week. Steve was always a person I could call when I needed to be uplifted. It was a Blessing to us to have known steve and to those who knew him well understand! Take solice in the poem below during your time of grieving.
Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

How does one say goodbye to someone who has impacted the lives of so many people in an apartment off Sherwood Forest Boulevard over 10 years ago. Steven was a parental figure for everyone, and anyone. You could not just come to Steve’s home you were a part of his HOUSE. It was in 1997 when Steven, (after being upset that Mayberry Dinning Hall would not stay open on Sundays late for the students who attended church to eat) created “Soul Food Sundays” in his living room. We would all leave church (I my dorm Room BED, got to be honest YOU are looking down on me now!) and bring dishes to his house to laugh, talk, sit in the drive way, watch the cars go by, “work up a good READ” or even jumping in the pool. I was able to talk to you about parts of my life that many people who have the same blood as I in their veins will never be able to comprehend. Just as you advised me on my many marriages and oh so many divorces (laughing as if you were to read this you would say “of course!” with your fingers on your forehead!) It is through your love that I have a Family of Friends all across the United States. Now I have taken all the lesson in life you have bestowed upon me and have open my home to people just as you did for me. I know one day we will all be together again at your table having Soul Food Sunday again. So go prepare the menu, and for God’s Sake make sure you set the table, you know how I am! LOVE YOU and Will MISS YOU!

TO THE COLLINS FAMILY:
STEVE WAS A VERY WONDERFUL FRIEND OF MINE AS WELL AS A CHURCH MEMBER. HE IS TRULY MISSED. IT WAS TRULY A BLESSING TO HAVE HIM IN MY FAMILY'S LIFE.IT WAS HE THAT BROUGHT ME TO THE LORD. HE ENCOURAGED ME TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF JUDAH AND WOULD ALWAYS FUSS IF I MISSED SERVICE. I MET STEVE AT JETSON CORRECTIONAL CENTER WHERE WE BOTH WERE OFFICERS, EVER SINCE THE HE HAS BEEN MY BEST FRIEND.I REMEMBER STEVE SAYING TO ME ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO THAT HE FELT LIKE THE LORD WAS DOING SOMETHING SPECIAL IN HIS LIFE. AND HE DID JUST THAT. HE TOOK HIM FROM WORRY AND PAIN. I KNOW FROM THE 5 YEARS BEING IN HIS COMPANY THAT HE IS WITH THE LORD. HE WAS A MAN OF GOD. NO DOUBT. SO DON'T WORRY, STEVE IS IN A FAR BETTER PLACE!!!! GOD BLESS YOU AND GIVE YOU STRENGTH IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW.

To my family, I am the child of Sandra, and the grandchild of Rose Ann Shavers/Lanehart.Steve and I had just began to come close after knowing we were related. Steve would always come to my sisters home to download cd's and they would sing together. We would laugh, joke, and just have fun. Now it seems a mystery, for our life as cousins had just begun. The previous Friday he had emailed me 3 times but I was not at work. I will forever keep these emails for as long as I am a Blue Cross employee. He would have been sitting right down from me. He will never be forgotten. I say to you all, God is with you. May his comfort and peace give you strength for the future.I Love you

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Mr.and Mrs Collins, I am a friend of Steve, I met Steve when we were both freshmen in college, and singing with SUIGC which was in 1993. Steve was always cracking me up, then of course we grew up and we went seperate ways, everytime I would coem home to visit by chance a couple of times I would bump into him. I just want you all to know that you all should be very proud of him, because he loved his family, but he also loved our LORD and Savior. Thats something that I would always remmember.
My prayer is that GOD will sustain you and your family during this trying time.
