Frederick Marschalk Obituary

Celebrating the Life of Dr. Frederick Ferdinand Marschalk, Jr.

On August 19, 2025, at his longtime home on Trafalgar Drive, Frederick F. Marschalk Jr., MD, joyfully entered his eternal adventure with Jesus. Fred was a man of music, mischief, faith, and medicine, who lived with boundless curiosity and compassion.

Born to Dr. Frederick F. Marschalk and Helen Marguerite Hildebrandt, he was the devoted husband of 57 years to the late Joyce Elizabeth Coursey Marschalk. He is survived by his sister, Mary Holton; brother-in-law Mark Coursey; his children, Angelique Mitchell (Zack), Dana Lupton (Jeff), Shannon Marschalk, and Rick Marschalk (Laura); six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one godson, numerous extended relatives, and faithful companion, Linda Lou Locke.

He is predeceased by his sister, Rita Bentz; and by his brother-in-law, Ronald Coursey.

Dr. Marschalk graduated from the University of Georgia in 1960, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, and faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a friend to many. He loved nature, played trombone with flair, and delighted in adventures that became family legends. Fred called God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit "THE TEAM" and he lived his life guided by their grace. That was Papa: faithful, humble, and trusting enough to know he didn't walk alone.

He poured that same spirit into his work as a doctor. As a dedicated pulmonologist, he integrated compassion, science, and faith into his medical practice. Pulmonology wasn't just his specialty - it was his calling. And he believed healing had to be more than just medicine. He cared about his patients' minds, bodies, and souls. He listened. He prayed. He offered compassion. And that's why people loved him - because he saw them as more than just patients. He leaves behind countless lives touched through his work as a physician. Though we mourn, we also celebrate a life full to the brim, rich with love, laughter, faith, and song. A committed member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for over eight decades, he lived with steadfast devotion to his faith, his family, and his community.

A celebration service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 402 Aumond Road with Pastor Roger A. Schwartz officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Moving in the Spirit or Project Life.
