He was the devoted husband of Eva Arlane Schroyer Whiteman, whom he married on September 3, 1961. Glenn met Eva during her nurse's training at Springfield Hospital, when she sustained an injury from a patient. He dedicated himself to the community by serving as a lifetime member of the Sykesville-Freedom District Fire Department for over 70 years as an ambulance driver and actively participated in their carnivals, Friday night bingos, and other fundraisers. He coached youth sports and received several awards, including the Optimist "Friend of Youth" Award (1978) and the Knights of Columbus "Citizen of the Year" (2001–2002).
