Patrick Ryan Obituary

Patrick Michael Ryan passed away on August 2, 2024, after a brief illness. Pat will be remembered most for his warmth as a friend, father (and dog father), grandfather, and husband.

Growing up the youngest of five siblings, Pat started his lifelong love of learning early. His sister Nancy remembers him reading his parents' encyclopedias cover to cover in the closet, looking for some peace and quiet. He never stopped learning; he went back to school in his late 30s, beginning a second career in the law, and he never missed an opportunity to outperform Jeopardy contestants from the comfort of his living room.

He met the love of his life, Margy, at the University of Delaware. She and Pat spent 45 wonderful years together. Nothing made him happier than spending a day together by the water, enjoying a nice meal, and taking a boring house tour.

Pat loved being a father. When his two daughters went off to college, he excitedly adopted their sports teams (though their sports enthusiasm was lacking), and he relished every opportunity to share his love of wine and good food with his daughters and their friends.

More recently, Pat became a member of the Elks Lodge. He was so looking forward to serving his community among new friends.

Pat's sister Lois tragically passed away in February of this year. He is survived by his wife, Margy; his daughters, Molly (Bryan) and Amy (Brendan); his grandson, James; his sisters Nancy and Susan; his brother, James; and his Nuttle in-laws.

Pat will be remembered for his love of others, always sharing a story or happily providing his legal services when needed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The League for People with Disabilities, a cause near to his and Margy's hearts.

Pat was such a kind, friendly man. My husband and I met Pat and Margy a few years ago at a restaurant. We would often run into each other at different establishment's we all frequented. Pat even wrote up our will and wouldn’t take any payment. He said he didn’t charge friends.
He will be missed. Rest in peace.

Margy, I will never, ever forget Silent Prayer. Pat had such a wonderful, quiet sense of humor. I'm honored to say Pat was a friend. Love, Price-O

I´ll always remember Pat as Molly´s dad. Pat´s warmth and generosity were apparent to and deeply felt by me and all of our friends who have spent time with him. He was always a great host and company whenever we visited, preparing crab bakes, cooking corn, and taking us out on the water. He will be missed.

I went to grade school and high school with Pat. I remember in grade school passing him in the hall and he stopped to talk. With a huge smile he asked me how I was doing. He spoke with genuine interest and congeniality. From that point forward and as long as I knew him I always regarded him as one of the nicest people I ever met. Safe travels Pat until we meet again.
