Terence Grindlay Obituary

Terence "Terry" Brian Grindlay, 55, Seymour, died Friday, Aug. 24, at Schneck Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 5, 1957 in Bremen to Kevin Grindlay and the late Gloria (Gelzleichter) Grindlay.
Terry swam with age group swimming; Valparaiso High School and Ball State University swim teams.
He met his soul mate, Karen Pardieck, through their fraternities, Sigma Chi and Pi Beta Phi, at Ball State University. They married 33 years ago on Aug. 18, 1979. While at Ball State, Terry rode for the Sigma Bike Team in Bike-a-Thon and was named outstanding senior for the bike team. He also ran in mini-marathons and later rode in the Hilly Hundred bike race in Bartholomew County. He became a Life Loyal Sig shortly after their marriage.
Terry was very active with Ducks Unlimited, serving as Treasurer and then President of the Muscatatuck Chapter over several years. In addition, Terry became active in Wetland Reserve Projects, establishing five such projects and helping others throughout the state of Indiana get involved with preservation. He became a Life Sponsor of Ducks Unlimited just a few years ago.
Terry was an avid duck and goose hunter, introducing many new hunters to the sport. Terry had three "seasons" - hunting season, tax season and soccer season. He rarely came back from a hunting trip without a new story of something gone horribly wrong. He worked tirelessly in tax season, helping his clients get their best results possible. He saved his patience for soccer season, coaching a team full of teenage girls.
Terry graduated from Ball State with a bachelor's degree and MBA in accounting. He originally worked with Deloitte Haskins & Sells in Indianapolis and then purchased an accounting practice in Seymour in 1983.
In 1994, his wife joined him in their firm Grindlay & Grindlay, PC.
Terry and Karen had their first child, Jarrett Andrew, in 1987 and welcomed their daughter, Kaitlin, to their family in 1993. Terry was very active with youth athletics - coaching baseball, softball and soccer through park and rec, and travel soccer through Seymour Cyclones for both boys and girls. He was also active with the Seymour Soccer Association and administered the drive to establish the C.B. Hess Memorial Field in honor of the late CB Hess.
He is survived by his wife and children, his father, Kevin Grindlay and his wife Cynthia of Valparaiso; brother, Ken and his children Erin and Sean of Virginia; a sister, Cathy in North Carolina; and three half-brothers, Sean, Kevin and Patrick in Michigan, Tennessee and Valparaiso.
Terry and Karen were overwhelmed with the support and prayers they received over their lives from family, friends, co-workers, doctors and pastors.
Terry will be greatly missed by his family, friends and co-workers. He will be fondly remembered for his great smile, his shoulder shakes with laughter, and always having a joke to tell. Terry didn't just play the game of life, he left it all on the field.
He is preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour; burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Voss Chapel, Seymour, and from 12:30 p.m. Wednesday until time of service at the church.
Memorials may be written to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ducks Unlimited, Seymour High School Soccer, or donor's choice.

So sorry to hear. Although I have never met Terry, I have come to know him through our membership in Waterfowler.com. He was very knowledgable and much help on the duck/goose hunting forums. Rest in peace my friend and we will one day share a blind together. The Grindlay family will be in our continued prayers

Karen,

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Terry. He was a mentor for me and got me invovled with coaching girls soccer here in Seymour upon my return from college. I really did appreciate him getting me invovled with the program. I remember all of the frustrations when it came time to picking girls for the teams, but I enjoyed hearing everything he knew about the game and all of the advice he gave me yet really took to the fact that he asked me questions about things he couldn't get right on the field. I couldn't believe it when I heard he had passed. I didn't realize he was sick again. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers! He will be greatly missed!

Karen, I was so sorry to hear of Terry's passing. Although I had not seen him for many years, I still recall what a great guy he was when I worked with him at Deloitte. I had so many great memories of him packed into just a few short years, from tons of laughter, fun running 10Ks at Ball State, firm golf outings, Broad Ripple on Friday evenings (as long as everyone got home in time to watch Dallas on TV), CPE (especially Dayton), and more laughter. I feel so lucky to have known him both professionally and as a friend even during that brief period of time. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

There is no greater "Love Story" than that of Karen and Terry Gridlay. We celebrate the life he lived and the give praise to the battle he and Karen so gallantly fought to the very end.
Their 33 years of marriage is an example of LOVE enduring all things! Terry you will be missed but never forgotten. God Bless both of you!
