Gerald Thompson
Gerald Marcus Thompson, 89, a resident of Darien, McIntosh County, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 16, 2025 at UF Health Shands Hospital, in Gainesville, Florida.
Gerald was born on April 23, 1936, in Brunswick, Glynn County, to the late Marcus Alexander Thompson and Euna Candacie McCloud Thompson.
Gerald attended Glynn County Schools and was a 1954 graduate of Glynn Academy. After graduating, he attended Southern Technical Institute and began his career in the electrical trade working for McInnis Electric Co. In 1977, he founded his own business, Thompson Electric Company of Glynn Inc. Gerald retired in 1999 and began spending more time with his wife and family. Known for his strong work ethic, he could often be found in his workshop, building and crafting items for loved ones. Not only did he construct his own home, but he also lent his skills to help his children and grandchildren with their homes over the years.
Gerald and Maudelle were married on June 14, 1958, in Brunswick, Glynn County. They resided in Brunswick/Glynn County and Darien/McIntosh County all of their lives.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Alexander Thompson and Euna Candacie McCloud Thompson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Maudelle Lazaro Thompson of Darien; daughter, Tammy Galin Thompson Lomis (James Bruce Lomis) of St. Marys; son, Gerald Marcus Thompson Jr. (Lisa Elizabeth Pickren Thompson) of Nicholson; and son, Gregory John Thompson (Stephanie Joanne Brown Thompson) of Brunswick; grandchildren, Benjamin Sterling Allen (Vanessa Marie Hall Allen) of St. Marys, Bethany Candace Allen of Livingston, Montana, Bridgette Logan Thompson Culpepper (Brandon Solomon Culpepper) of Morven, Haley Nicole Thompson of Sugar Hill, Mitchell James Lomis (Olivia Bryant Lee, fiancée) of Augusta, and Gregory "John" Thompson Jr. and Travis Joseph Thompson, both of Brunswick; great-grandchildren, Shawn Michael Lake, Haylie Angelia Lake, Gavin Bryan Lake, all of of St. Marys, and Boone Solomon Culpepper and Bellamie Leanne Culpepper, both of Morven; several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
Gerald was a loving, dedicated and devoted son, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was very generous, giving of his time and talents. He always put the needs of others ahead of himself. Gerald especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
A service to celebrate Gerald's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at Chapman Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Crandall officiating.
A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time.
