Michael MacGregor Obituary
Michael MacGregor passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, after an extended illness.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Eugene and Ruth Knudsen MacGregor.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen Sweat MacGregor; his daughter, Dr. Amanda MacGregor Harrington (Mark) of Lexington, Ky.; his son, Connor Michael MacGregor of St. Simons Island, Ga.; his sisters, Laurie MacGregor Goodman (Roy) of Nashua, N.H., and Susan MacGregor Parent (Dave) of Westford, Mass; one granddaughter, Scarlett Harrington; and many members of his extended family.
He grew up in Groton, Mass., and was a big fan of the Red Sox, Celtics and New England Patriots teams. He came south to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned a degree in special education and met his future wife. Upon moving to St. Simons Island, he spent 30 years in the Glynn County School System teaching intellectually disabled students, which he frequently said was "the best job in the world." He was known for his humor and quick wit. He enjoyed spending time cooking, fishing, playing golf and riding his motorcycle. He was devoted to his family and a kind and generous man.
A private service will be held at a later date.
