With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Kathy Ann Thompson, who passed away August 20, 2024, at the age of 75.
Kathy was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend who touched the lives of so many with her kindness, optimism, compassion and warmth. She will be remembered for her love of family, her unshakeable faith, her generosity, and her positivity even in the face of adversity.
Kathy was born in Brewster, Ohio to Mary and Glenn Shook. As a young adult Kathy moved west, first to Tempe, Arizona and then to her beloved home of the last 43 years, Avalon, Catalina Island. She raised her family on the island and was an active and cherished part of the community. Kathy loved working for the Santa Catalina Island Company for over 25 years, retiring as Senior VP of Corporate Quality.
Kathy was most happy when surrounded by her family, especially her four grandchildren. She loved to travel in the US and abroad. She visited every state but three and many other countries. After retirement, Kathy found a passion for art. She loved making hand-crafted sculpture mostly using found objects and also made tile mosaics and jewelry. She brought many smiles to passersby when she would dress up the pelican statue in front of her home for every holiday.
Kathy leaves behind her husband David Thompson, her daughters Kelly Campbell, Corey Thompson and Brenna (Will) King, grandchildren Cooper, Kylie, Charlie and Eloise, and her brother Randy (Cindy) Shook along with many lifelong friends. Kathy's memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A service to honor and celebrate Kathy's life will be held on September 29th at 1:00pm at the Avalon Community Church followed by a reception at 2:00pm at the Catalina Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donate to Avalon Lions Club Scholarship Fund at PO Box 305 Avalon CA 90704 in Kathy's name.
Kathy will be deeply missed but will remain forever in our hearts. May she find eternal peace and happiness in the arms of God.
