Elizabeth Shaffer Obituary

Elizabeth M. Shaffer passed away peacefully May 12, 2022, at her home in Frederick, MD.

She was born February 15, 1928, to Archibald and Jane McDonald in Harmarville, PA.

Most of her life was spent in the DuBois, Reynoldsville, Brookville areas of Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth received her Business Ed teaching degree from Indiana State University in Indiana, PA, her masters from Penn State and Computer/data processing certification from Robert Morris in Pittsburgh, PA. One of her favorite memories was she attended the same church in Indiana as the actor Jimmy Stewart and got to see him occasionally. Elizabeth taught high school Business Ed in Detroit, Michigan, Brookville, PA and for many decades at DuBois Area Senior High. She loved teaching and her students loved her. Some of her favorite things were being with family, swimming, reading, hunting and fishing with her husband, Cardinals and violets.

Elizabeth married Wm Byron Shaffer on December 30, 1950. He predeceased her in August 2015. They have two daughters, Marlene Finger of Billings, Missouri, and Joyce Zimmerman (Donnie Abrecht) of Frederick, Maryland.

She was also predeceased by her parents and seven siblings. She was loved by her daughters, as well as her grandchildren: Richard (Carrie) Bussard, Billings MO; Byron Finger, Rutland, VT; former son in law; James Finger, Rutland, VT; Doug (Molly) Zimmerman, Brookville, PA; Ryan Zimmerman, Bunker Hill, WV; Adam Zimmerman, Brookville, PA; Amanda Zimmerman (Ricky Brandonburg), Walkersville, MD; Jennifer Abrecht, Gaithersburg, MD; Sara Abrecht (Ben McDonnell) Frederick, MD; two brothers-in-law and their families; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 12-1 p.m. at the Snyder – d'Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, PA 15851. A funeral service will take place immediately following the viewing, beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

Taught with Betty at DAHS in the Business Ed Dept. many years ago. She was a kind person who helped a new teacher starting out. And she drove me to the school that year.
