Alfonso Mancini, 84, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, surrounded by his loving family in his home.
Alfonso was born June 8, 1926, in Lettomanoppello, Italy, in the Province of Pescara, to the late Antonio and Griselda (Guisti) Mancini. Alfonso and his loving wife, Lea (Terzini) of 60 years, immigrated to Vineland from Italy in September of 1957, where they resided together with their four children.
Alfonso was trained as a master tailor in Italy, where he operated his own tailor shop. Upon arriving in Vineland, he was employed as a tailor at Bucks Custom Shop in Vineland, Bacon's and Rovner's Men's Store in Bridgeton and was finally the head tailor at Macy's in the Hamilton Mall, until his retirement in 2003. Alfonso was known by many people in the area for his expertise with alterations. He also made many custom suits from his home for his own clients.
Alfonso was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish for 53 years. Alfonso's passion was his devotion to his family, his trade and the soccer club, Juventus. Alfonso made time to listen and watch Italian soccer and recorded the box scores every Sunday. One by one, his friends from the old country would call or come over to learn of their team's results. Alfonso took great pride in his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Nonno was an inspiration and role model for his entire family and will be sorely missed.
He was predeceased by his brother, Rosario, and sister, Adele.
He is survived by two sisters, Ottavina and Ripalda of Sassuolo, Italy. Survivors also include his wife, Lea (Terzini); three daughters, Griselda Giacalone and husband Michael of Vineland, Sandra Olbrich and her husband Donald of Bridgeton, and Marisa Taormina and her husband Eugene of Vineland; one son, Antonio Mancini of Vineland; six grandchildren, Angela Giacalone, Christina Mendolera and her husband Anthony "AJ", Donald "DJ" Olbrich Jr., Lea Olbrich, Isabella Taormina and John Taormina; and one great-granddaughter, Melanie Anna Mendolera.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday from Sacred Heart Church, 1010 E. Landis Ave., Vineland. Entombment will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Mausoleum, Vineland.
There will be no public visitations.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland.
Donations in Alfonso's memory may be made to Sacred Heart High School, 15 N. East Ave., Vineland, NJ 08360; or South Jersey Healthcare HospiceCare, P.O. Box 160, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.

Griselda, Sandra, Tony, and Marisa: I am so sorry to hear about your father's passing. I will always remember him enjoying listening to soccer games on that super-duper radio and will forever be in awe of how he turned those chalk marks on your basement floor into beautiful suits. Please give your mother a hug for me.

With my deepest sympathy, please accept my message of condolences for the entire family. Alphonso was my Mother's cousin and I was fortunate to re-connect with him and some of his children a few years ago. I was lucky to have the opportunity to visit with Alphonso and his wife Lea along with Tony and Sandra a couple of times and enjoyed stories of the old country where he and my Mother were from. As a result of these visits, I was finally able to visit my ancestral home in Manoppello and Lettomanoppello, Italy and connect and re-connect with many cousins. I will never forget Foonzie's warm heart and smile. He is now in a better place and pain free forever, reunited with his parents and siblings and all other that pre-deceased him. May god bless him on his journey. Mark Maloney and other cousins from Portland, Maine
