Dorothy C. "Dot" Atkinson, 89, of Millville died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Atkinson moved to Millville in 1958. Mrs. Atkinson was very community minded, being a very active member of St. Mary Magdalen RCC, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Millville Elks Lodge no. 580, where she served two terms as president. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and arts and crafts, but she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Dale Atkinson of Millville, Roy, Russell and Michael Baldt, all of Pennsylvania: two daughters, Lorraine Vallozzi of Lawrence Twp. and Christine Helby of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Betty Riddle of Michigan, Delores Teamenn and Mary Lou Sweeney both of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter. Mrs. Atkinson was predeceased by her husband, William; and four brothers, Edward, Henry, Theodore and Paul.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Mary Magdalen RCC. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Rocap Shannon Memorial Funeral Home. An Elks service will be held at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
