John West Obituary

John Martin West Jr.

Born: October 12, 1955 | Died: May 12, 2025

In Loving Memory of John Martin West, Jr., age 69, of Maryville, TN, entered into the presence of the Lord on May 12, 2025. John was born on October 12, 1955, in Blount County, TN, to John and Alma Ford West. He graduated from Everett High School in 1973 where he met his high school sweetheart, Janet Sumpter West; they were married on September 24, 1976. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who adored his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife Janet of 48 years, children Cassie (Shannon) and Jed (Kacie), brother Bill (Lisa and children). He leaves behind the light and joy of his life, grandchildren Megan, Lexie, Lucy, Jay and Emmy. Other survivors include aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with his parents John and Alma West. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in the summer of 2022 and joyfully shared his salvation with family, friends and strangers whenever he could. John and Janet attended church together at Springbrook Church in Alcoa, TN. The family wishes to thank the nurses and employees of DaVita Blount Dialysis and the nurses on 4 North at Blount Memorial Hospital for their excellent, loving care they provided for John. We are eternally grateful for all you did for him. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice greatly in knowing our husband, father and grandfather is in the arms of the Savior, where there is no more pain or sorrow-only eternal peace. A celebration of John's life will be held at Springbrook Church on Saturday, May 17, with receiving of friends starting at 12:00pm and service at 2:00pm officiated by Rev. Doug Simmons. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John M. West, Jr. Heritage High School Baseball Scholarship Fund, Tunnel to Towers Foundation (T2T.org), and Wounded Warrior Project. "Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture."– Psalm 100:3 www.blountfuneralandcremation.com

I am sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked with him for years as he was one of our regulators. He was always trying to help and even when he was regulating us he was a gentleman. I really liked him. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

John West was a larger than life character, who was always friendly, and always willing to help. I met him in college in the early eighties, and had multiple classes with him. He always made the day interesting. I am honored to have known him.
