Alexandra April "Sandie" Gregory

1943 - 2020

Montville - Alexandra April "Sandie" Gregory, 77, of 59 Jerome Road, Uncasville, died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at her home. She was born April 17, 1943, in New London, the daughter of the late Michael A. and Julia H. (Yaworski) Yuhas. She married Arthur Gregory of Lewistown, Mont. Feb. 14, 1976, in Uncasville; he survives her.

A 1960 graduate of Saint Bernard High School, she worked in the bookkeeping and accounting fields at the former Hartford National Bank in New London, the Naval Submarine Base in Groton and most recently at Hendel's Ethan Allen in Groton, retiring in 1990.

She was very active in her community, serving on the Town Hall and Community Center Building Committees, as a Justice of the Peace, and as a commissioner and chairman of the Montville Economic Development Committee and the Montville Lions Club. She was also a former member and corresponding secretary of the Norwich Business and Professional Women's Club and a former charter member of the Ecology Club of Montville. She was a co-founder and 5-term president of the Country Garden Club of Montville. For several years, she led a statewide campaign against the devastation caused by the non-native, invasive plant, Oriental bittersweet.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Connie White of Ledyard; two stepchildren, Jami Harris of Vancouver, Wash. and Phillip Gregory of Portland, Ore.; and a half-sister, Helene (Kachuk) Gift of Cape Coral, Fla.
