Carol Seaman Obituary

Griswold - Carol (Bair) Seaman, 79, of Griswold, passed away on May 3, 2014, in New Haven, after a brief illness.

Carol was born on June 11, 1934, in Neptune, N.J., to the late Dr. Carl and Julia (Magoon) Bair. She was the oldest of three sisters, Janet Steeves of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, and the late Bette Beam of Griswold. Throughout her life, Pachaug Pond was a place of residence, enjoyment, serenity, and retreat.

Carol graduated from Glen Ridge High School, Glen Ridge, N.J., where she met and later married the late F. Clyde Seaman on June 11, 1953. After living along the east coast for several years, in 1968, Carol and Clyde settled their family in Pachaug.

Carol was a faithful and devoted member of the United Church of Christ (UCC), First Congregational Church of Griswold. There she touched the lives of all she met through her service and devotion. Carol was the past president of the UCC Eastern District Women's Fellowship and a member of the New London Association UCC Church & Ministry Committee. In 1980, Carol was on the initial committee establishing a UCC Regional women's event in New England known as New England Women's Celebration. Over the years, Carol was a member of the choir, was the Sunday school superintendent, VBS director, Youth Group advisor, and church clerk. She served on many committees including, deacons, trustees, stewardship, Pachaug Ladies Fellowship, Christian Education, annual church suppers and bazaars. She was the proverbial church mouse. Whenever something needed to be done, she did it without telling anyone, but they all knew it was her.

Carol was a dedicated civil servant. As an active member of the Connecticut State Republican Party and until the time of her death, she was the Registrar of Voters for the Town of Griswold.

Carol is survived by her son, Mark Seaman and his wife, Robin (Caristo), of Griswold; her daughter, Marianne Mastronunzio and her husband, Michael, of New London and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., her son, Matthew Seaman and his wife, Pamela (Stevenson), of Lake Worth, Fla., and her daughter, Melinda Gray and her husband, Dean, of Sarasota, Fla. She also leaves her nine grandchildren, Nicole (Seaman) Howard, Jacob Seaman, Matthew Potvin, Nina (Seaman) Bumpus, Gretchen (Mastronunzio) Pagano, Jeffrey Seaman, Amanda (Seaman) Trouille, Kaitlyn Brooks, and Kelsey Brooks. Carol also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren.

Carol was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Clyde; her great-grandson, William Howard; her sister, Bette; and her niece, Tracy Steeves.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Pachaug Cemetery, Voluntown Road, Griswold.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Congregational Church of Griswold, 878 Voluntown Road, Griswold, CT 06351.

The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home.

Carol was one of our 'mothers' for New England Women's Celebration and will be sorely missed. We were delighted to have her with us at our Celebration this past March in Portland ME. As always she spread smiles all around! "Well done, good and faithful servant"

Carol's proverbial water glass was half full – never half empty. Hers was a strong faith – built on the rock of Reality! I am grateful to have known her as a person who lived what she taught and walked her talk. Happy Mother's Day Carol!

We are so blessed to have known this remarkable, inspiring friend! All our best to the family... as Melville said, 'we leave a wide and turbid wake.' If that's the case, Carol was certainly a world-class yacht!
