Daniel Henry Obituary

Mystic - Daniel Brian "Dan" Henry, 41 of Mystic, died unexpectedly, of cardiac arrest Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born on March 18, 1981, the son of Brian M. Henry and Patrice (McCarthy) Henry of Mystic.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is survived by his son Edward Webster "Teddy" Luethy-Henry; and his mother Paige Luethy of Mystic; a sister, Kelly Henry, of Ledyard; his brothers, Matthew Henry and his wife Heidi, of Waterford, Brian Henry of St. John, USVI, and Shaun Henry of Mystic. He was a fun and loving uncle to his nephews, Will and Keegan; and his nieces, Isabel and Abigail. He also will be sadly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins; and lifelong friends and teammates.

He attended Groton Public Schools and was a 1999 graduate of Fitch Senior High School. He attended the University of New Haven and University of Connecticut, Avery Point. He was a first-class rigger at Electric Boat working at the U.S. Submarine Base in Groton.

Dan was blessed with wonderful coaches as he developed his God-given talents and instincts for the game of baseball beginning on Mystic Little League's Rossie Field. He continued to play Babe Ruth, American Legion, high school and

college ball as well as spending a season playing and coaching in Germany while living with a family in the town of Elmshorn. He played for five years on the first AAU baseball team in Connecticut, based out of the Connecticut Baseball Academy in East Hartford. In their first year, they traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, and won the thirteen-year-old National Championship. He was a fierce competitor and natural leader on the field. As much as he loved baseball, his son Teddy is his gentler side and truly the joy of his life. He could not have been a prouder or more loving father; and all of Dan's goodness will live on in Teddy.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the Mystic Funeral Home on Route 1, in Mystic. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at St. Patrick Church, 32 East Main Street, Mystic. Following Dan's Mass, he will be laid to rest at St. Patrick Cemetery, River Road, Mystic. Donations in Dan's memory may be made to: St. Patrick Church "Forward In Faith" Campaign or to St. Edmunds Recovery Community (www.endersisland.com). We miss Weaze. I tell a story about him pitching in the state tournament. The other team was laughing when he got on the mound with his big glasses and small stature. They didn't laugh at the end of the game when he made many of the players look foolish with array of pitches and control. A memory I will always cherish. Rest in peace my friend.

I will never forget Dan pitching against South Windsor in State Tournament. He got on the mound to throw the first pith and all the Windsor players started laughing at his big glasses and small stature. He preceded to pitch a 3 hitter and we got the last laugh in victory. We all miss Dan , he always made ys laugh.

I was fortunate to be coached by Wease through a stumbling into American legion baseball. Coach Wease left lifelong impacts in two short months within my outlook on life. He pushed me to reach boundaries I couldn´t. He is responsible for the my baseball swing, and a major reason I continue to love the sport as an adult. As someone who coaches, I always valued his approach to working with young athletes: honest (sometimes brutally), consistent and passionate. Coach Wease amplified the love of the game through tangible joy. He made you feel things you were unfamiliar to, that made you a better version of yourself. He lived life to the absolute fullest, acting as a catalyst to the promotion of joy around him.

I am blessed to have known this man and have an ability to call him my coach. Two short months we spent together on a daily basis and he has had an impact on me 15 years later. Dan was a special human, may he rest peacefully and be celebrated by those who know him. I wish you and your family an abundance of strength as you go through this difficult time.

Dear Brian & Pat,
Rich & I are so deeply sorry to learn of Dan´s passing. He touched so many lives with his beautiful smile and warm and loving manner. He was a coach to our son, Jay, and Jay loved him. He was a friend of our daughter, Katie, and she will cherish her memories of their many happy times together. As I will of all the fun times we spent together at JP Daniels. We had the pleasure of spending a day with Dan a few years ago when he attended a birthday party for my brother Wayne´s daughter, Kristin. He was so proud to introduce us to his son. It was so beautiful to see him as the loving and extraordinary father that he was. God bless Teddy, each of you, and the whole Henry Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at the very difficult time.

Saddened to hear the news of Daniel, I met Dan at General Dynamics in the rigging dept when he first started. He was always or should I say sometimes to ambitious to lend a hand. Sometimes not knowing the job but always ready to go. Dan was kind of a quiet individual keeping to himself mostly, and never saying a bad remark about anybody. What for some reason stands in my memory of Dan is that he always had some sort of candy in his pocket. Dan will be missed ,and taken away to young .

So, so sorry to hear about Dan´s passing. Great teammate. And even better childhood friend. I was fortunate to play baseball with some very good guys growing up. But I think we´d all admit that Dan was the best of the bunch. Finally, though our most recent conversation a couple of summers ago was brief, I´m glad that my kids got to meet him. May God grant Dan eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
