Douglas Abbott Obituary

Waterford - Douglas Abbott, 88, of Quaker Hill, passed away on Jan. 28, 2014.

He was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Forbes Point, Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of Ira and Minnie (Slater) Abbott.

Mr. Abbott was married to Agnes (LaGrua) Abbott in November 1947. Mrs. Abbott survives him.

Doug served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in 1988, where he had worked as a draftsman. Doug and Agnes enjoyed their retirement and loved traveling and spending time with their family and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Agnes, he is survived by his three children, son, Kenneth Abbott and his wife, Marie, of Ledyard; daughters, Linda Porter and her husband, Bill, of Waterford, Kathy Gallup and her husband, Ed, of Uncasville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.

Funeral services are private, and there are no calling hours.

Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.
