Eileen McCormick Obituary
Mystic - Eileen McCormick was born May 27, 1930, in Hartford, daughter of the late Frank and Grace (Riley) Hurlock. She spent her formative years in Collinsville. After a brief illness, she passed away peacefully Dec. 5, 2024, at Apple Rehabilitation Center in Mystic.
As a young woman, Eileen worked at Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, before she met her husband Richard and retired to raise a family and move with him around the country as he pursued a career in the nuclear power industry.
Eileen was a lover of art and music; she was an artist herself, with a beautiful voice, who always carried a song in her heart from the Great American Songbook. Her short stories and poetry, especially of her experiences in her beloved Collinsville, displayed a deep affection for an idyllic life with an adoring family. She was a multi-media artist who loved to create and display her artwork including paintings, photography, quilt making and sculpture. Her legendary hand-crafted Christmas angels, which she gifted to family and friends, were admired by all for their unique and solemn beauty. When her children were grown, she worked as a pastry chef at The White House Inn in Middletown, Md., creating unique and intricate desserts for the guests.
Her husband of 61 years, Richard Hall McCormick, predeceased her in 2017; as did her brothers, Allen, Walter, Frank and Milton; and her sisters, AnnMarie Short and Regina Barone. She is survived by her children, Richard Hall McCormick Jr. (former wife Kimberly), Karen McCormick (Greg Baruch) and Brian McCormick (Scott Page); and her grandchildren, Scott McCormick (Cristina) and William and John Baruch; and great-granddaughter Autumn McCormick. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Lavado. She always held a special place in her heart for her extended family members including "Daddy" and "Ma" Beauchemin and Aunt Elsie and Aunt Mary and the Hudon and Sternberg families.
Eileen had a unique gift for friendship wherever she lived and delighted in her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial and graveside service will be held at Saint Patrick's Church in Collinsville, at a later date. The family asks that any donations be sent to the Charles Hall Gallery, Marlborough Arts Center and Museum in Marlborough, Ct.
