Elisabeth "Liz" Abrams

Colchester - Elisabeth "Liz" Abrams, R.N., 89, of Colchester, passed away peacefully at home Aug. 12, 2025, surrounded by her daughters. Born in Malden, Mass., June 24, 1936, she was the daughter of Rolph and Rose Ruben and beloved wife of William Abrams, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage before his passing in 2022.

At age 40, Liz earned her R.N. from Mohegan Community College and later a B.S.N. from St. Joseph's College in Maine. She worked over 30 years in healthcare, including at William W. Backus and Lawrence + Memorial Hospitals.

A nationally ranked Senior Athlete, Liz won multiple gold medals in the National Senior Games and placed seventh nationally in table tennis for her age group. She had a gift for making others feel valued, and a life rooted in faith and service. She and her husband co-founded Youth Encounter Inc. and served in various ministries, including at Grace Fellowship Church, where she was a Deacon and choir member. But her greatest passion was her Messianic faith and her family. She taught her family the importance of having a personal relationship with Yeshua, the Messiah. She taught her children by example the importance of love and respect for others.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy and Susan Abrams of Colchester, and Rachel Olson of Taftville; grandchildren: Becky (Tim) Chamberlain, Benjamin Abrams, Matthew (Christina) Smigiel, and Jordan (Mariah) Smigiel; and great-grandchildren, Eliza, TJ, Emily, and Sayde. She was predeceased by her husband; siblings; and grandson Daniel Smigiel.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Grace Fellowship Church in N. Stonington, and will be livestreamed.
