Elizabeth Amanti Obituary

New London - Elizabeth Alice (Cahey) Amanti, 85, of New London, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Betsy was born on Dec. 25, 1927, in New London, to Thomas Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Hendry) Cahey. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and graduated from Chapman Technical High School in 1945. Upon graduation, she went to work at Southern New England Telephone Company as a switchboard operator until 1951. She especially loved going over to the Submarine Base where she helped sailors place calls to their loved ones during World War 11.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Milton Thomas Amanti on Sept. 10, 1949, at St Mary Star of the Sea Church in New London, together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. He predeceased her on Sept. 2, 2007.

In 1972 after raising her family, Betsy returned to the workforce at the Judicial Department of the State of Connecticut, where she worked as an assistant clerk at GA 10 in New London. She retired in 1989.

Betsy was a communicant of St Mary's Star of the Sea Church where she was an active participant until her illness prevented her from attending services. She was an avid reader and especially loved doing crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and friends and her monthly luncheons with the "Over the Hill Gang'" as they affectionately referred to themselves.

She is survived by her son, Thomas J. Amanti and his wife, Rebecca; and her daughter, Patricia A. Hoskins and her husband, Perry, all of Waterford. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Christina Amanti of Westerly, R.I., Lisa Amanti of Boston, Mass., Amy Hoskins of New London and Brandie Ballard and her husband, Rob, of Las Vegas, Nev. She is also survived by her sisters, Jane Perka of Ballston Spa, N.Y. and Ruth Ann Ramaccia of Groton; and her brother, Charles Cahey of Waterford. Additionally she is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Erin Lynn Hoskins.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. Monday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at St Mary's Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London. Internment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Jefferson Avenue, New London.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Beechwood Rehabilitation Center and the nurses and staff of the 4th floor of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, as well as Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, for their loving care and support given to our mother during her illness. A special thanks to Lynda Annibalini and Mary Ellen Tudisco for the home health care provided over the last several years and to Deb Connors for her kindness and spiritual support.

In lieu of flowers, donation in her memory may be made to St Mary's Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St, New London, CT 06320.

Hi Tommy, Patricia and family,
I have many fond memories of Aunt Betsy. My first trip on a plane was to Connecticut with Uncle Vincent and Aunt Francis when I was 9 years old. Your Mom (and Dad) made me feel right at home, especially with her wonderful sense of humor and ability to make me laugh. Even though our times together were brief and I am blessed to have known and loved her. Warmly, Ramona Raine Glascock

Tom and Family

Our sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Mother. May all those happy memories help you all during this very difficult time. Our prayers are with you all.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Tom & Family,
I was a student of yours at Montville High in my freshman year. I remember you as an excellent teacher. I am deeply sorrowed at the passing of your beloved mother. I too have lost my mother in 2007. My mother was very proud of me as yours was of you. My deepest sympathies and prayers in this time of grief. As long as we remember the love that will forever be in our hearts, they are never truly gone.
