Jean Len Obituary

Bozrah - Jean (Kuchy) Len, age 95, of 380 Salem Turnpike, Bozrah, passed away Jan. 17, 2025. Together with her husband of 63 years, Frank Len, she owned and operated "Len's General Store" at Salem 4 Corners, a landmark in Salem.

Jean leaves behind her niece Julia Armstrong and husband Art; niece Barbara Wisniewski and husband Eddie; Marie Piatnyczka and companion Bill Stankiewicz; nephew Dennis Kuchy and wife Marie; nephew Jonathan Kuchy and wife Patti; niece-in-law Maureen Kuchy; along with numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Katherine Kuchy; her sister Pauline (Kuchy) Piatnyczka and her husband Trochym Piatnyczka; brother John Kuchy and his wife Olga Kuchy; and a nephew, Gregory Kuchy.

Jean was a friend to many and shared her love of life without reservation. While appreciating the modern world, she had a strong attachment to old-time traditions. She would jump at the chance to work on a puzzle, was a budding artist and collected antiques. Both Jean and Frank had a fondness for flea markets, antique shops and country fairs and would happily load up their RV and head off on an adventure. Jean and Frank spent their retirement years between Colchester, and Rockledge, Fla.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. Whether or not they know it, Aunt Jean's passing will leave a mark on so many lives since she had touched so many during her full life.
For me, it was things like Aunt Jean picking me and Grandma up and driving into Norwich so Grandma could get the things she needed and maybe an ice cream or sandwich for me with a warning not to get anything on the seats of Uncle Frank's Thunderbird. Overnight stays when Mom and Dad were out of town, all the way up to Friendly Freddie's Fruit stand at the end of the 4 corner's parking lot that she helped Dennis and I run for a summer. In thinking about this one time did stand out more than others.
I was maybe 5 or so and it was a Halloween night. There was a knock on the front door of our house. Now we practically never used the front door so my Dad says we should go see who it is. The door opens and there stands a witch in full Wizard of Oz regalia complete with a broom and bag. She came in and said she was here for any boys or girls who weren't being good and shook her bag that was full of something. She asked if I had been good, Yes, would I like to go for a ride on her broom, No. She just cackled and held the bag out and I said "Trick or Treat?". My dad and her cackled again and she nodded her head. After I got my prize Dad asked if I knew who she was and I said no since I truly didn't recognize her. They laughed again and she went back out the front door. Dad told me who it was and I ran to the windows to see her leave but she had parked down the road and walked back. So for all I knew she had gotten on her broom to go home. I should have said Yes....
