Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Avery Funeral Home in Hope Valley. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Avery Funeral Home, followed by a military burial at 12 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, R.I.

I will remember John for his warm smile and laugh, great sense of humor and his penchant for story telling which many of us were treated to following one of his many vacations. In his later years, he was more active, vital and fun loving as those half his age. I was fortunate to have known him and will not forget him.

Mrs. Gilman,
While John and I certainly had our political disagreements, I extend to your family my respects at this time. His impact was felt in Hopkinton. He undeniably was an important figure in town affairs, especially in the last several decades. Undoubtedly he will be remembered at our next meeting of our Hopkinton Town Council, as we frequently adjourn in memory of individuals.
