June Perody Obituary

Ledyard - June E. (Cook) Perody, 93, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her devoted family.

June was born on June 5, 1923, in Herkimer, N.Y., the daughter of Edna Abel. She was also nurtured by her grandmother, Lucy Metz.

June attended Crouse-Irving School of Nursing in Syracuse, N.Y., graduating in 1944. She then enlisted in the U.S. Navy-her military career was cut short when she met the "love of her life", Thomas Perody, also in the U.S. Navy. They were married in their "dress whites" on July 21, 1945 in Ilion, N.Y.

On May 5, 1946, June delivered the first of her five daughters. She was a wonderful homemaker; keeping the home fires burning while Thomas was deployed to Korea for two long years. After many relocations, they finally moved to their first real home in Ledyard; residing there for over 50 years.

June returned to her nursing career last working as an evening supervisor at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. She was a nurse extraordinaire - loved and respected by her patients and staff.

June is survived by her five daughters, Lucy Davidson and her husband, Peter, of Old Saybrook, Susan Lajzer and her husband, Kenneth, of Kingwood, Texas, Carol Falvey of Woodbridge, Va., Lise Perody and her husband, Robert of West Hartford and Ann Gladue and her husband, James, of Griswold; as well as 25 and counting, beloved grand and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Michael Abel and his wife, Lexi, of Bradenton, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Albert Perody and his wife, Mary, of Norwich.

June was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Perody; and her infant grandson, Ronald Dusza.

Her family would like to thank all at June's beloved Atria Crossroads Place for their attention and kindness to our mother these last two years. Also, many thanks to the wonderful staff at Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Finally, special thanks to Masonicare Hospice for making our mother's final days comfortable and beautiful.

As per June's final request, she will be buried alongside her husband at the Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard, along with the ashes of her beloved pug, Molly.

She would love for you to consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor her love of country and the military.

Funeral services and burial are private.

Susan and Family...I just read your condolence on my dads obituary..thank you so very much for that.
Your mom lived down the hall from my dad at Atria, and when she moved in I noticed the name and introduced myself....I do not remember you, as I was the youngest of us Vacaro children, but I do remember your sister Ann fondly.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your mom...she was a lovely lady...we had many pleasant exchanges and I was so surprised and saddened to see she had passed. You and your family are in my thoughts.

So sorry to hear about this... you might not remember me but I was a neighbor, Debbie Hansen, was friends with Lisa on and off, my parents had horses while they were still together. I often wondered if the family still lived there and have thought about you off and on over the years. My mom is 87, dad passed away 8 years ago with illness, but still thinking of you over years and miles. Sooo sorry about the loss of your mom.
