Marjorie Lang Obituary

Griswold - Marjorie H. Lang, of Griswold, passed away June 26, 2024. Born in New London, July 15, 1944, she was employed by Electric Boat in Groton, and worked herself up from an hourly timekeeper to management in the suggestion program.

While working full time, she earned her master's degree in industrial relations. After her retirement in 2001, she served as substitute teacher in various local school districts for many years, a job in which she loved interacting with the children and trying to make a difference.

She had many joys in life including UConn women's basketball and attending the Women's Final Four each year, her family (especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren), and assisting as Mrs. Claus to her husband's role-playing Santa each Christmas. For many years, they enjoyed each Christmas portraying Santa and Mrs. Claus appearing at the former Whipple's Winter Wonderland, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, Hard Rock Café, Ritz-Carlton in Florida, the yearly Jewett City Christmas parade, churches, senior centers, senior homes, and many private homes. She also enjoyed various arts and crafts, especially making canvass creations to give to people.

She is predeceased by her husband, Kirk Lang; her parents, Charles and Marjorie Rolls; and two siblings, Charlotte Hornberg and Gary Rolls. She is survived by children: Timothy Valliere, Marjorie Brewer, John Valliere (Vicki), Kirk Lang; Glen Lang (Eva); and grandchildren: Melissa Marceau (Amber), Brittany Reinhardt (Robert), Brenden Valliere, Christopher Lang (Sally), Amy Lang (Barry), Cary Lang and Jonathan Lang; and great-grandchildren: Kate Esquero, Skyler Marceau, Aiden Allen, Grayson Allen, Harper Reinhardt, Ellie Lang and Elizabeth Geddis; as well as brothers, Charlie Rolls and Ricci Rolls. The family would like to all thank those who assisted her later in life including but not limited to Marjorie Brewer, Diane Kangas and Lisa O'Hara.

There will be a Celebration of Life starting at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Jewett City VFW on Taylor Hill Road.

I always knew where to find yarn when I needed it, or a pattern. Marge, you were a great friend and will be missed.
