Maureen Ranquist Obituary

Bozrah - Maureen K. (Parenteau) Ranquist passed from this world and entered her eternal life early Wednesday morning, Jan. 5, 2022, at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Born in New London, to Catherine (Shea) and Arthur Parenteau, she graduated from New London High School in 1962. She married her beloved husband Carleton on Aug. 17, 1963, at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in New London. They were together for 40 years of marriage until his passing in 2003.

From an early age, Maureen was an avid and accomplished seamstress, having made her own wedding dress, clothes, and for others, besides having worked in the promotional department of Marty Gilman, Inc., for 35 years. She also enjoyed crafts, traveling, homemaking, and yard work. She was devoted to her home and family.

Maureen was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Brian Patenteau; and a sister, Lorna Christensen. She was also predeceased by two nephews, Brooks Parenteau and Tim Ranquist. She is survived by her three loving children, Deborah of Gales Ferry, Patrick and Raymond of Bozrah. In addition, she is survived by brother-in-law Rodney Tozier; sisters-in-law, Dixie Parenteau and Rosalie Ranquist; dear cousins, Mary and Antonio Ficarra, Eugene Stublick, Marilyn Davis, Michael Shea; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces in Connecticut and Maine. She is also survived by her best friend of many years, Donna Meyer of upstate New York.

Maureen had hoped for a good, long retirement to catch up on her many projects. Being healthy most of her life, after only two years into that retirement, she was disabled by illness, making it necessary to depend on her devoted children who shared in her home care with her many dedicated nurses of Hartford Healthcare at Home. Despite her debilitating conditions, she never lost faith that she would recover and enjoy some of her passions, always doing as much as her health would allow.

She will have a quiet service at Thomas Neilan and Sons, New London, at a later date where friends and family will be able to gather to remember and celebrate her life. Burial will be besides her beloved husband, together again for eternity.

My condolences to the family and friends that knew Maureen. She is a good hearted gentle soul that always loved her family and friends. She was one of the best aunts I have ever had and known. We have such great memories of our time with her. Another star has been added to the skies to watch over us and guide us. You may not be here in the physical but in each and every one of us and everywhere in spirit! Love always Brandon

Deb - I remember your mom's smile and how she always took the time to ask how I was doing when she heard that I was visiting you.
I know the last few years have been very difficult for you all. May she now rest in peace, my friend.
