Robert Kane Obituary

Southington - Robert A. Kane Jr., 87, husband of the late Doris (Nardi) Kane, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1924, in Southington, son of the late Robert A. and Anna (Cook) Kane Sr., and lived there most of his life.

Before his retirement, Robert was president of Southington Savings Bank. He was a 1941 graduate of Lewis High School. He received a bachelor's degree in 1952 from Teachers College of Connecticut, New Britain, and a graduate certificate in banking from Bryant College and Brown University in Rhode Island in 1963. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He was a volunteer firefighter with Engine Co. 2 in Plantsville for 30 years.

Robert is survived by two sons, Tim Kane and wife, Kris-Anne, of Preston and Michael Kane and wife, Venus, of Charlton, Mass.; a brother, Howard Kane and wife, Joyce, of Florida; a sister, Margaret Nevelos and husband, Guss, of Plantsville; two grandchildren, Robert and Mikala Kane; along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Bokanski and a sister, Rita Emonds.

The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Aloysius Church, 254 Burritt St., Plantsville. Burial with military honors will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill CT 06067, or Pan-Mass Challenge Bike Ride to benefit The Jimmy Fund, 77 4th Ave., Needham MA 02494.
