Robert Solt Obituary
Bob served in the U. S. Army for 30 years. He was very proud of his service to his country. He served in the Vietnam War and during the Cold War at Fulda Gap on the East-West German border. In 1979, he retired and brought his family back to Groton, to settle here. He was an X-ray technician at Wyman-Gordon Corporation in Groton, for 17 years. After retiring, he spent a lot of time on the golf course, his favorite pastime! He was a member of Old Mystic United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Robert K. Solt Jr. of Nuremberg, Germany; two daughters, Sheila Bishop (Frank) of Mystic and JoAnn Smith of Long Beach, Miss.; five grandchildren: Brian (Jill), Nici, Jaci (Josh), Randy and Brandon; great-granddaughter Haley; sister Peggy Lewis of San Diego, Calif.; brother Gary in Germany; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Marjorie and Joyce; and a brother, Sheldon.
A private interment will be held in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. Please visit www.byles.com to share a memory or condolence with the family.

Sergeant Solt was my first sergeant back in 1973 in Co C, 1/68 Armor, Baumholder, Germany. He was a great guy and I will always remember him.

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing and pray he is with Gisela and family. It has been a very difficult year for everyone but know he was well taken care of by his family. Bob was very special and I loved his big smile and sparkling eyes. You are all in my prayers.

bob was a coworker and a neighbor.he had a great sense of humor,was a hard worker and was a devoted husband and father.he served his country as well.it was a pleasure to know him.

Bob was a frequent golf partner and good friend to my dad, Phil Castro. It was my pleasure to join them on many occasions. Bob was always had such a friendly, easy going demeanor, and provided many hours of interesting conversation. He was such a fine gentleman. And he always had the shiniest car and golf shoes of any one. My sincerest condolences for your loss.
