Roslyn Haney Obituary

Sarasota, Fla. - Roslyn P. Haney, 83, died after weeks of illness Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, in Sarasota, Fla.

Roslyn was born April 2, 1939, in New London. She graduated from New London High School and Willimantic State Teachers College in Connecticut. She then taught at Cohanzie Elementary School in Waterford until she retired. Roslyn married Charles "Chuck" Haney on July 6, 1963, and was blessed with 54 years of marriage before Charles' passing.

After retiring, Roslyn and Chuck moved from Connecticut to Venice, Fla., where she enjoyed golfing, bowling and walking. She volunteered in her neighborhood, Palm Villas, as Sunshine Lady and longtime treasurer of the clubhouse committee. Roslyn's other pastimes included crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and watching TV sports. She was an avid fan of her beloved UConn women's basketball team and enjoyed cheering on the Huskies with friends.

Roslyn and her late husband Chuck were members of Venice Presbyterian Church for more than 20 years.

Roslyn treasured her lifelong friendship with Alma Falvey of New London. Roslyn's family greatly appreciates her friends, Carol and Ron Bowman, who faithfully cared for her during her last few years of life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Haney; her parents, Fred and Bertha Hirsch Pacifici; her brother, Leon Pacifici; and sister-in-law, Mary Pacifici. She is survived by two nephews, Richard Haney (Pam) of Richmond, Va., and David Haney (Barbara) of Portland, Ore.; and a niece, Deannine Shipman of State College, Pa.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at Venice Presbyterian Church's Memorial Garden.

Memorial gifts may be given to Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice FL 34285.

Mrs. Haney was our math teacher at Cohanzie Elementary. Smart as a whip, and a great teacher. Her mental drills were a great hit with all the kids, everyone waving their hands eagerly with the answer. God Gless and keep you always, Mrs. Haney you are well loved and missed.

Our most sincere condolences to the family and friends and Roz. Her husband, Chuck, was my friend and teaching colleague for decades and we met Roz through him. She became part of a close group of Lyman Memorial H..S. friends. Roz was the sweetest, funniest and lovely woman. The twinkle in her eye and her sense of humor always impressed me. I loved seeing them so happy and relaxed when they would come back to Connecticut for a visit from their new home in Florida. Now she is reunited with the love of her life. May she rest in eternal peace.

Mrs Haney was my favorite teacher at Cohanzie. She put name on each desk. She stood next to my desk and when I sat down she said d I am standing here at your desk to see who would be sitting here with a beautiful name of Etta Gay Noto. She is a name I use for a Question hint. I have always used it-who is your favorite teacher. I truly Loved her! I also love Sarasota. We would stay at the Lido Key Resort. I wish I had known she lived there. I have memories that I have always kept close in my heart. Rest in peace Mrs. Roslyn Haney, a name I thought was Beautiful.

Mrs. Haney, my 6th grade teacher at Cohanzie. What a wonderful woman. She taught us so much, with a full heart, laughter, and fun techniques to remember what we learned from her. Because of you, Mrs. Haney, I learned how to keep others engaged in learning. I use your methods to train my coworkers. You were always so kind, upbeat, and filled with positive energy. Your compassion during some tough times, was -and still is, so deeply appreciated. Thank you for being my shining light. I will continue to cherish you, and teach in your fashion.
