Boring in New Haven on Feb. 11, 1930, he was the son of the late Russell L. and Sadie (DeLorie) Rice, Sr.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant during the Korean Conflict, and had also received a Bronze Service Star.
Prior to his retirement he had worked at Pratt & Whitney in Middletown. Until last week, he delivered meals to the homebound for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and ballroom dancing.
Surviving are his son, Matthew Rice of Bozrah; his daughter, Stephanie Rice of Groton; brother Mancel "Jimmy" Rice of New London; a sister, Charlotte Prichette of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Spencer Rice and a sister, Margot Dugas.
Memorial visitation will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in his memory to Meals on Wheels, 81 Stockhouse Rd., Bozrah, CT 06334.

Dear Stephanie & Matthew,
I've had the pleasure of working with your dad for over 9 years. He was the most wonderful individual. He always went out of his way to make all his customers feel specail by giving them a little extra time and caring about their lives. He was a wonderful coworker, cook and dancer, and we will be lost with out him.
