Colchester - Tammy Banis, 53, of Colchester, passed away March 31, 2025, after a long courageous fight with Brain Cancer. Born Aug. 6, 1971, in Norwich, Tammy lived a life marked by strength, dedication and a deep love for her family and passions.
Tammy built an impressive career over 35 years in the stone business. She held a Commercial Driver's License and operated heavy equipment with skill and confidence. Traits that defined her professional life. Her work ethic was unmatched, and she took pride in every task she undertook. Whether navigating or managing the demands of her trade, Tammy approached each day with determination and humility.
Beyond her career, Tammy found joy in many aspects of life. She had a profound appreciation for land and loved spending time on her farm surrounded by animals. Her connection to nature was a source of peace and fulfilment. She also enjoyed cosmetics and fitness, often dedicating time to the gym as part of her self-care routine. Entertaining came naturally to Tammy, her silly sense of humor and kind-hearted spirit made gatherings memorable for all who attended.
Above all else, Tammy cherished caring for her children. Her love for them was unwavering and evident in everything she did. She poured herself into motherhood with passion and grace.
Tammy is survived by her devoted mother Josephine Guarnaccia and her wife Jane Fitzpatrick; her father Vincent Savalle Jr. and his wife Teri Davis; her son Steven Banis; her daughter Brooke Banis and Brooke's boyfriend Troy Kindt; and the father of her children, Steve Banis.
She is also survived by her dear friend Harman Dhaliwal; sisters, Regina Gagliardo and Regina's boyfriend John Millaras; Regina's children, Olivia and her boyfriend Austin Ross, Joseph, James Gagliardo, and Whitney Zdancewicz with husband John; sister Michele Howard and husband Terry Howard along with their daughters, Marissa Sousa and Kaytlyn Howard; stepsister Nicole Davis and husband Brian McMillan; stepbrother Christopher Davis and wife Lynette Miller; and stepsister Jessica Davis with husband Robin Ferrigno; and stepsister Jean Turner and her husband John; stepbrother John Turner and wife Jennifer, and their children; aunt and uncle Lynn and Quinn Fortier, and their children; aunt Dorothy Guarnaccia; aunt Suzanne Reinholtz; and numerous cousins.
Tammy was predeceased by her nephew Robert Appell; maternal grandparents, Francesca and Louis Guarnaccia; paternal grandparents, Eva Fortier, Vincent Savalle Sr., and Mike Lmick; aunt and uncle Rosaria and Thomas Dombroski; aunt and uncle Virginia and Philip Guarnaccia; uncle Salvator Guarnaccia; uncle Theodore Reinholtz; and brother-in-law Joseph Gagliardo.
Tammy's legacy is one of resilience, warmth, laughter, hard work, humility, success, passion and above all love.
She will be deeply missed every day by those who knew her. May Tammy's memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
A funeral service will be held Sunday April 13, at Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home at 167 Old Hartford Rd. Colchester. Calling hours 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Prayer service at 2 p.m.
