Thomas Arico Obituary

New London - Thomas Frederick Arico Sr., 75, beloved father and husband, passed away Sunday morning, June 18, 2017, at his home in New London.

Born July 24, 1941, in Norwich, he was the son of the late Alexander and Alice (Ibbison) Arico. He received his high school diploma from Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1959. He continued his education at the University of Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State College where he was awarded a bachelor's degree. He then went on to pursue a master's degree from Eastern Connecticut State College. Tommy started and ended his career teaching for the Ledyard Board of Education. He was president of the local teachers union from 1975 to 1985, he also served as a deputy sheriff for New London County for many years. He is a life member of the Westerly Yacht Club and member of the former Norwich Elks Lodge. Tommy enjoyed sailing and most of all coaching for the Waterford Little League baseball and youth football leagues.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Leonard) Arico; son, Thomas Arico Jr.; stepson, CJ Rassbach and wife, Laurie; grandchildren, Kennedy and Landon; sister, Elizabeth Portelance and husband, Thomas; brother, Allan Arico and wife, Jamie; several nephews and nieces; and great-nephews and great-nieces. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Beverly Simpson; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Arico and his wife, Betty; his father-in-law, Richard Simpson; and brother-in-law, Glenn.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at St. Mary's Church, 70 Central Ave., Norwich. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Wishing the entire Arico family my sympathy upon the loss of Tom. I knew him when I worked at JWL as the assistant principal. He was certainly a gentleman, who enjoyed teaching each and every day. Please know that I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.
