Ting Chen Obituary

Old Lyme - Ting Chen's life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and love - values that shaped both his professional and personal legacy. Ting was born in 1989, in a small village in Fujian, China. Immigrating to the United States at the age of nine, Ting's early years in New York City's Chinatown gave him the foundation of a rich cultural heritage and the strength to overcome challenges.

His story continued in South Jersey, where he finished high school and pursued higher education. He attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, where he laid the groundwork for his medical career. By 2016, he had completed medical school at New Jersey Medical School and was ready to begin his journey as a physician. Ting then pursued an integrated residency in diagnostic and interventional radiology at the University of Minnesota, where he ultimately served as chief resident.

Upon completion of residency in 2022, he moved with his family to Old Lyme, where he took a position as an attending physician at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. There, he brought the same warmth and attention to his work that had marked his career. His colleagues and patients alike remember him for his compassionate approach, his positive and uplifting demeanor, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued.

Beyond his professional achievements, Ting was a devoted husband to his wife and a loving father to their two children. He made his home in Old Lyme, where he built a life filled with love and joy. His family was the center of his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Tragically, Ting's life was cut short Nov. 4, 2024, when he passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest at the age of 35. His death has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Yet, his legacy endures. Ting's ability to bring light into any room, his genuine care for those around him, and his commitment to making the world a better place through both his work and his personal actions will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends and all who had the privilege to know him.

Ting's story is one of love, compassion and selflessness. His passing is a deep loss, but his memory will continue to inspire those who carry forward the kindness, joy and warmth that he shared so generously throughout his life.

I had the pleasure of working with this young man in the interventional radiology suite at L+M hospital. He was intelligent, very skilled, caring and compassionate individual who was a great asset to the imaging department. My condolences to his family. God rest is soul.
