Glenn and I are devastated. We were sailing in the waters of the Sea of Cortez at the time of Alan's death. We will miss Alan very much. His candor, insight, wit and smile will linger in our memories. Alan had become one of our best and most cherished of friends. In fact Alan and Jan have made us feel as if we are a part of the family. Jan, know that we are here for you at ANYTIME. Much love and many hugs from us.

Alan was one of the most amazing men I have had the privilege of knowing. He and Jan touched my life and he aspired me to be the better man I am today. I will miss his smile, his laugh, and his wise words tremendously. You made a huge change to my life my dear friend and you will be missed.

It truly is hard to believe that dear Alan is gone...but certainly Not forgotten. He was a prince. A generous human being that we can All take some lessons from. I'm certainly glad I had the good sense to introduce him to Janet those many years ago, the two of them were a great team. I will always be here for Jan.

Even though grandpa alan was not blood related to me, he always made me feel as if we were. I have never been close with my own grandparents, and I am so thankful I had him(and janet) throughout these years because he was such a kind and loving person. I only wish I had had more time to spend with him, but am also thankful for the times I did.We will all miss him so very much and he will always be in our hearts.

I have known Alan and Jan for ten years and my visits with them have always been a highlight of my week. I enjoyed Alan's stories and his inquisitive manner. He had a way of putting people at ease that was uncanny. We would talk and laugh a lot and I will remember this always. Alan Newman was truly a remarkable man.

What I admired about Alan (and Jan) is the way he made you feel like he was meeting his best friend every time you spoke with him. It was just that comfortable.
He had called me a couple of weeks ago to say hello because I'd missed seeing him and Jan when I was last in San Diego.
He really did like finding out about people and their life stories....just for the human connection.
I will miss him.

Alan was a true gentleman, whom I knew well in golf circles some years back, when Al was a member at Olympic Club in S.F. We played a fair amount of competitive rounds with each other, and against others, and he was a talented player whom you could count on in the clutch. This, of itself, spells out the character of the man. I haven't seen him in some years, but comment here, no finer gentleman, on or off the golf course in my view, Jim

Alan was a great leader in the insurance industry, admired by all. I had the privilege to work with Alan and admired him greatly. Most of all, he was a good man and will be missed.
