Frederick Lewis Obituary

Just days after turning 65, Fred Lewis, of La Quinta, CA lost his 6 month battle with leukemia. As he did with everything in life from the football field to the office and most importantly to his family and friends he gave it his all but it was just bigger then he was. Fred grew up on a farm in San Luis Obispo and his life revolved around sports. He went to Fresno State where he played football. To this day some of his closest friends are those he met during that time. Upon graduation his first job with Traveler's Insurance Company took him to Hartford, CT, then to San Francisco where he met his wife, Marge. Fred worked for Marsh Risk and Insurance Services for over 30 years. Fred took pride in his family and most of all, his son, Brian. He was involved in coaching many of Brian's sport's teams and was loved by all Brian's friends. Recently, the most important thing to him was to attend Brian's marriage to Alicia Stultz in June of this year. He was there to walk Brian down the aisle looking very healthy. It was a wonderful event for him to share with his closest friends and family. It was shortly after that the leukemia hit him with vengeance. He spent most of the summer on 11 Long at UCSF medical center fighting the disease in the care of the most wonderful nurses and doctors. Many tears were shed the day the doctors feared the worst that the leukemia had once again returned. His family is forever indebted to the entire medical staff that took care of him and in particular his doctor, Lloyd E. Damon, M.D. Fred leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Marge; son Brian and his wife, Alicia; and his constant canine companion, Bella. In addition he leaves behind his brothers, John and Rick Lewis; sister Linda Seitz (Ron) and a large extended family. Fred and his wife, Marge, spent their last several winters in La Quinta (CA), playing golf and summers in Tiburon (CA) enjoying a great life. They also shared many wonderful trips together. Fred was a loyal friend. During his illness he heard from many friends including some he knew from grammar school and high school. Fred fought his illness the way he played football. He was an inspiration to many people who met him on the playing field and in life. The world will be a much emptier and sadder place without him. A private service was held in his honor. A celebration of Fred's life will be held at PGA West sometime in early November. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial gifts to: The Fred G. Lewis Bone Marrow Transplant Fund. Please make checks payable to the UCSF Foundation, Box 45339, San Francisco, CA 94145-0339.

To The Family of Fred Lewis,
To anyone sharing life in San Luis in the 50's and 60's the name of Fred Lewis brings a smile. A crazy, good guy who obviously developed into an excellent man who touched many lives in a myriad of ways.
May the life you shared comfort you in this time of grief.

Marge,

We never met, however, Fred was my boss at Marsh Risk & Insurance Services when I first started my career. I'm so sorry to hear about Fred Lewis's passing. He was a great man.

He taught me so much and supported me through the 4 years I worked for him. His mentoring and teaching have been an invaluable asset to me.

Again, my deepest condolences on your loss.

To the Lewis Family,

Fred was a fun person to be around. His love of sports was the cornerstone of his personality. My fond memories take me back to San Luis Obispo and I picture Fred either in a football, baseball or basketball uniform. I really don't think he wanted to wear anything else.

The people we care most about in life are taken from us to soon. My prayers and thoughts reach out to all of you.
