Patrick Patton Obituary

Patrick T. (Pat) Patton, born April 8, 1923 in Chicago, Ill., passed away on August 17, 2013 in Palm Springs, Calif. Pat was the last surviving member of his P.T. Boat Squadron that served in the Philippines. He was a decorated sailor that served his country well and was also a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After returning from the war Pat started Patton Fence and Construction Company in Manhattan Beach, Calif., where with his wife Julie, they raised two children, Cindy & Michael. Pat and Julie (the love of his life and great partner) were married 70 years and created many wonderful memories with their family and friends. They loved dancing, boating, camping, outdoor activities at the beach, mountains and most of all "the desert". Anyone who was lucky enough to party and play with Pat and Julie will never forget how much "life" they put into living. He retired to the desert at age 55, but he always needed something to do. Pat started building homes in the desert. He built his last home at the age of 80 and then only really retired due to a stroke that temporarily sidelined him. He and Julie lived in the home in Mission Lakes that he and his son built. Pat preceded in death by his mother, Susan Sutton; father, William Patton; stepfather Luke Smith; brothers, William Patton, Bob Smith and Ray Smith. He is survived by his wife Julie; Daughter, Cindy Pyorre (Rich); grandsons Rick & Jacob Pyorre; Son, Michael Patton; Grandsons, Damien and Zion Patton and granddaughter Keely Daugherty. He also leaves twelve great-grandchildren; Taylor, Jacob, Mavis, Nathan, Ashley, Mackenzie, Tessa, Henry, Owen, Sean, Gregory & Cassandra as well as a brother, Don Smith and sister in laws, Irma & Lupe Smith; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. In lieu of a service, Pat, requested you to donate to a favorite charity and celebrate life with those you love. For those who knew him he will be deeply missed.

Pat served on PT527, and although he never mentioned it, we have since his passing found, his boat rescued 4 POW's who had been prisoners of the Japanese for over 3 years. I am proud to have had him as a father-in-law

I was lucky enough to have known this wonderful couple. They were a joy to be around. Even when I would take them to the doctor they were joking and laughing. Even when they would bicker they would do it a joking manner. I loved hanging out with them.
