Scott Sims Obituary
It is with profound sadness our family announces the passing of Scott Bartley Sims on Aug. 21, 2014. Scott was born in Fontana, California, on July 15, 1961 and lived in West Covina for several years prior to moving to Palm Desert with his family. He attended Palm Desert MS and graduated from Indio HS where he was on the wrestling team. Scott loved animals and was always finding strays that needed a home. As a teenager, Scott enjoyed fishing, water and snow skiing, riding dirt bikes and boating and spent many summers on family vacations in Kino Bay, Mexico. There were many happy memories and adventures. Scott worked as a waiter and bartender in his 20s. He was married briefly. Scott was an active member of the Journey Baptist Church in Palm Desert. Scott is survived by his loving father, Bartley Sims of Palm Desert, his sister Susan, brother-in-law Steve and nieces Lauren and Lindsey of Simi Valley, California. Cousins include Norton Miller and family of Globe, Arizona, Susan McMannes and family of Houston, Texas. He had dear friends whom he has known since childhood, especially Leonard Beck and his friends from church. He was preceded in death by his dear mother, Helen Sims. He will be remembered as a very kind and generous person and a wonderful son and sweet brother and friend. A "Going Away Farewell" in his honor will be Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Journey Baptist Church in Palm Desert on Warner Trail. Please consider a donation in Scott's name to Animal Samaritans in Thousand Palms or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
