David Defenbaugh Obituary

September 15, 1951 - December 11, 2015

Victor Hugo said, "To love another person is to see the face of God." Indeed, David Defenbaugh saw each person around him as a child of God, worthy of David's time, attention and love. He passed away Friday, December 11, 2015, at age 64.

Born to Kenneth Richard Defenbaugh and Bette McCallister Defenbaugh (both deceased) in Oklahoma City on September 15, 1951, David grew up in Houston, graduated from Memorial High School and attended University of Houston. He married his wife, Lynda Risinger Defenbaugh, on September 17, 1995, on the bridge at the Brazos Center in Bryan after meeting her at Central Baptist Church. His surviving family includes his wife Lynda, her mother Audrey Risinger-both of Bryan-and stepdaughter, Lauri Dotson (and husband Will) as well as David's grandchildren, Jaxson and Keaton Dotson, of Cypress, TX. Also remembering David are his beloved brother, Richard Defenbaugh (of Houston) and daughters, Rachel and Trisha.

Throughout his life, David relished the freedom to live and relax in the country, savoring days when the pace of life slowed enough for him to spend time with his family-especially Lynda and their grandchildren-watching Aggie sports, going for long walks, bike rides and road trips in convertibles; he often said he had "convertible hair." Perhaps David's great love of sports like tennis stemmed from his devotion to fresh air and sunshine, which constantly restored his soul. In fact, during his many years of working as a car salesman at Fred Brown Mazda, David looked forward to the opportunity to meet and greet new customers daily, chatting with them as they toured the car lot in the open air.

Always, David enjoyed an active lifestyle and a host of family members and friends, including Allan Landin, Tim Skaggs and Jesse Stanfield, as well as all those at Aerofit who regularly played tennis with him. David was also known and loved by the members of Central Baptist Church, especially the Uplifters Sunday School Class. He was comfortable talking to anyone, and people responded to his joyous nature, returning his sincere friendship. These same friends won't soon forget him.

Friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate David's life from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. A Life Celebration will start at 10 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, with John Maurer officiating. Graveside services will follow at George Cemetery in Normangee, TX. Memorials and contributions may be made in David's name to Hospice Brazos Valley at http://www.hospicebrazosvalley.org/donate.html.
