Frankie T. Kubin, 92, of Bryan, Texas went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. A public visitation was held at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of life in his honor will be held at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at New Tabor Cemetery.
Frankie lived a life marked by kindness, integrity, and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He was born on October 13, 1931, to John and Albina Kubin in his grandparent's home in the New Tabor community and the eldest of three. Frankie attended Caldwell Elementary, Cooks Point Community School and graduated from Caldwell High School. As a member of the Future Farmers of America, Frankie developed a love for farming, gardening and mechanical work. These attributes helped to shape and mold him in his personal and professional life. He played football for the Hornets at Caldwell High School and went onto graduate with the Class of 1951.
In 1952, Frankie married his beloved wife, Emma Odstrcil, at Cooks-Point Brethren Church. They were blessed with three children, Jeffery, Kent, and Leigh. Frankie always said the secret for a great marriage was to never argue and to always walk away. There had to be some truth to this as they were happily married for 72 years. In 1953, Frankie was drafted during the Korean War. He served in the United States Army from 1953 1955, in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. Frankie received formal training in the military where he was trained as an Engineer Equipment Repair man and later developed a skill working on wheeled vehicle mechanics. In 1955, the family moved back to Bryan, Texas. Frankie continued to serve his country, and he joined the US Army Reserves and served approximately ten years. Frankie always had a passion for Ford Motor Vehicles. He worked for Bryan Motors, Cade Motor Company and Beal Ford. He decided he wanted to open his own automotive shop. His wife supported this idea, and in 1978, Kubin Automotive on S. College Ave. in Bryan opened.
As time went on, this became a very popular place for "Pawpaw" and his grandsons. The boys loved learning to work on vehicles and they received invaluable training, but also learned many life lessons over Dr. Peppers and Big Red in the shop. Frankie loved his job and customers so much, he never actually retired. He continued to go to the shop daily, until Parkinson's set in and could no longer drive. Frankie found joy in spending time on the farm and tending to his garden, where he found peace and happiness. His joy came from his family, as his family meant everything to him. He loved the family trips to Galveston, barbequing at the farm, and helping anyone in the family no matter what it was he was always ready to help and did! Known as Pawpaw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was the ultimate gift giver. Whether it was walking on stilts, fixing up the go-karts and minibike for the 100th time, or teaching all of the kids how to drive. He could always be relied upon for a cold soda pop, wrapped in a paper towel, from the cooler in the bed of his truck. We will forever miss sitting on the tailgate of the truck, talking, and watching countless sunsets. He lived a life marked by kindness, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
Frankie is survived by his loving wife, Emma Kubin, his son Jeffrey, and his wife Becky; his son, Kent; and his daughter Leigh. His sister Linda Kubin-Cannon and brother-in-law, Thomas, and Rudy Rahnert, brother-in-law; grandchildren Sara and Jeremy Langley, Elizabeth and Derek Martin, Kolton and Kelsey Kubin, Kristine and Tyler Shanklin, Garrett and Bailee Greiner, Riley and Tara Greiner, and Makahla Greiner. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Mason, Preston, Emma, Pricilla, Olivia, Hallie, John and Kash.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following: Enhabit Hospice of College Station or the Cooks-Point Brethren Church. The family would like to thank Frankie's Hospice caregivers at Enhabit Hospice of College Station for their devotion and assistance to Frankie in his time of need. Frankie's legacy of a servant heart, trustworthiness, and commitment to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. We are forever grateful for his presence and influence in our lives.
The family will always cherish our memories at the farm, gathering on Briar Oaks, and his daily acts of kindness. We wish we could have just one more wave from the driveway, honking the aggie war hymn down the road.
