October 17, 1915 - February 19, 2018
Tracy Wine, 102, of Caldwell was called to rest by her Heavenly Father on February 19, 2018 at CHI-St. Joseph Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday, February 23, at Cooks Point Brethren Church with Pastor Delbert Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 22, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.
Terezie "Tracy" Hedvika Chaloupka Wine was born October 17, 1915 to Joe T. and Matilda (Trecilkova) Trcalek Chaloupka of Burleson County. She had three brothers and two sisters. Tracy was baptized in 1915 at New Tabor Czech Moravian Church by Rev. Motycka. Tracy attended Liberty School in Cooks Point and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1935.
On October 9, 1938, Tracy became the bride of Robert Wine. The couple became members of the Cooks Point Czech Moravian Brethren Church.
Tracy worked for Poehl's Variety Store and later for Surovik's Drug Store where she would prepare floats and take out to customers, you might say she was the original "car hop". In 1948, she became a telephone operator for Southwestern States Telephone Company and retired in October 1959. Due to a labor shortage at Porter's Gin in the Brazos Bottom, Boswell Porter persuaded her to work at the gin during the cotton-picking season, which she and Robert did for five years. Tracy worked as a lounge chair webbing cutter when the Kellar Chair and Ladder Factory opened in Caldwell in 1965, and worked there until September 1976, when Kellar closed. In addition to all her regular positions, she was a housewife along with helping Robert with his cattle and farming operations.
The couple built a lovely home on Highway 21 in 1967. In 1999, they decided to build a smaller, wheelchair-friendly home next to their brick home. Although Robert passed in February 2004, Tracy continued living in this home until becoming a resident at CHI-St. Joseph Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. There she enjoyed playing bingo, listening to live music, making crafts, and eating meals with her friends. Gladys Kocurek was her closest friend. Through the years, Tracy enjoyed working alongside Robert, traveling, growing flowers, baking, and working at SPJST Lodge 186. She was greatly loved by her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and all of her siblings.
Tracy is survived by her niece, Barbara Jo (Chaloupka) Jancik and her children, daughter Kathy Jancik & husband John Muzny and son J.W.; son, G.W. Jancik and wife Stephanie and her three children, Cameron McCoy and wife Kaylee and their children, Liam and Raegan; son, Blake; daughter Madison McCoy and Austin Grimes and son Andrew; nephew James Chaloupka and wife Karla and their daughter Krista Carter and husband Kacey and their two children, Rylee and Kash. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Wine of Lubbock, several nieces and nephews: Henry Lee Wine, Bobby and Sherry Wine, Doug and Marsha Maddox, Gaye and Mike Ward, Charlsa and Mark Goodman, and Diana and Johnny B. Ponzio; great nieces and nephews: Donnie and Mary Wine and Brad Maddox, Ronnie and Deirdra Wine, John Robert and J.J. Wine, J.T. and Sofie Goodman, Whitney Wine, Sandy Ondruch, Lanetta and Caleb Lutsch, Christopher Ponzio, Jason and Kim Ponzio; 22 great-great nieces and nephews and 7 great-great-great nieces and nephews.
