Mary Mottet Obituary

MARY LOUISE MOTTET Cedar Rapids Mary Louise Mottet, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Kenneth Glaser. Private family burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family before the service at the church after 9:30 a.m. Due to concerns over COVID-19, it is suggested that family members and friends wear a mask to any funeral event. Mary Lou is survived by her children, Debbie (Kevin) Vanourney of Solon, Jerry (Kristi) Mottet of Marion, Jean (Dave) Simbro of Portland, Ore., and Tom (Teresa) Mottet of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Elgean Nemmers of Bellevue. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George; sister, Lyda Herrig; and brother, Donald Berthel. Mary Lou was born Aug. 8, 1931, in Bellevue, the daughter of Alex and Bernice Pollock Berthel and graduated from La Motte High School in 1949. She married George Mottet on April 16, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. For 20 years, Mary Lou was a baker at Hy-Vee, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Mary Lou enjoyed baking, bowling, playing cards and eating out. She spent the last five years living at Meth-Wick Manor, where she had many friends and made lasting memories. Mary Lou loved being with her kids as much as possible and will be greatly missed by all. Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Meth-Wick Manor, St. Patrick Catholic Church or a charity close to your heart. Online condolences can be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com.

So sorry for your loss. She and your dad are having a happy reunion after being apart for so long. They were such a good example for you children to learn from. Keep their memory close by loving each other. I have only good memories of working with your mother. We both worked so early in the morning and how she could find me something to eat when I didn't have time for breakfast at 4am. Lots more to recall some funny some sad.

Our hearts go out to all of you. We understand this difficult grieving time, but can only remember your mom as smiling all the time. ...Well, except for the time Debbie, when we were in that car accident she did not think that was funny. Good memories for all. Hold them close in your heart. Glad she got to share Tea With Thee with us. May God be with you and Jesus walk beside you. In love and prayer, Denise and Jeff
