Roger Pohlmann Obituary

Roger Dean Pohlmann, 84, of Monticello, IL passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 4:03 p.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Teahen Funeral Home Cedar Rapids, IA. Rogers's family will greet friends on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Roger will be laid to rest at Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha, IA with a luncheon immediately following at the funeral home. Roger was born May 8, 1939 in Vinton, IA to Leonard and Mary Ann (Bevins) Pohlmann. He graduated from Keystone High School in 1957. He enlisted into the United States Navy in 1958, and served four years on the USS Bennington CVS-20. Following his service he received a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Mt. Mercy College. He was at the University of Northern Iowa from 1974 to 1979. Roger then went to the University of Illinois where he served as the Director of Business Affairs and Cashiering from 1979 until he retired in 2004. Roger married the love of his life Kay Melton on April 20, 1963. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard Pohlmann, two sons, Michael Pohlmann (1980), David Pohlmann (1984) and his wife of 37 years Kay Pohlmann (2001) . His legacy will continue through his sons Jim (Tracy) Pohlmann of Crown Point, IN, and Rick (Ellen) Pohlmann of Champaign, IL. He adored his four grandchildren, Riley, Brianna, Mackenzie and Brynlee Pohlmann and had a special relationship with his siblings Robert (Sue) Pohlmann of Alburnett, IA and Jolene (Bob) Grassley of Okaloosa, IA as well as many nieces and nephews. To know Roger was to know that he was a diehard University of Illinois Fighting Illini fan. When the weather was right he would tee up that golf ball, cast his fishing line into the river behind the house or camp at Lake Shelbyville in addition to going to auctions for his antique booth. After retirement he spent his winters in Florida and in the spring he meticulously cared for his yard and flower garden, but nothing compared to family time. Roger loved having his sons, grandchildren and the family dogs in the house the way his wife Kay always wanted it to be. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. There will be a Celebration of Life at the family home in Monticello, IL at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com

Our sympathy to Jim, Rick and all the family. We used to live across the street from your Grandma Evelyn and our kids (Bryan, Damon and Barbara) always enjoyed it when your family visited. Sorry we are unable to attend but know you are in our prayers.
